Andy Bull Announces The Phantom Pains Tour

Andy Bull is finally embarking on his first tour in support of his most recent release The Phantom Pains EP. Although it has been on shelves for just shy of a year, his prolific touring schedule alongside the cream of national and international acts has meant that it is only now, that this ‘songwriter’s songwriter’ has had the opportunity to take to the stage as the headlining act.
Although The Phantom Pains EP is not his first release, it is this six-track record that has allowed Andy Bull to grow a loyal audience across Australia. The EP casually defies the conventions that he established for himself on his first release, We’re Too Young, with studio formalities being discarded in favour of a raw sound that speaks to the vulnerability of Andy’s lyrics. To Bull, these were necessary steps as a growing musician, “A lot of things I used to be very concerned with, musically and personally, started to fall away, like a period of correction. I guess I like this idea of a ‘necessary correction’.”
Spawning two singles, The Phantom Pains EP is Andy’s most personal and exciting work thus far. First single ‘Dog’ which features the haunting vocal of previous touring comrade Lisa Mitchell, appeared in the acclaimed triple j Hottest 100 earlier this year, at an impressive #68. Brisbane indie lads, Hungry Kids of Hungary appear on the EP’s second single, ‘Last Waltz’ which has also become a fellow triple j favourite. Little Red, Adrian Deustch and Deep Sea Arcade, also happen to ‘do their bit’ on this record.
If it’s not in the studio, it’s on the road; Andy always seems to be in the company of some fine musicians. In 2011 alone, he can add a fourteen-date tour supporting Hungry Kids of Hungary, a co-headline tour with fantasy-pop luminary Owl Eyes and the national support for American singer-songwriter Joshua Radin to his remarkable touring resume. They sit alongside Tim Finn, Little Red and Duffy, just to name a few.
It’s not just Andy’s quirky pop tunes that make his live show a stand out. The stories that accompany the songs combined with Andy’s pert sense of humour deservedly place this charismatic young man in the spotlight.
Andy Bull and his band, will wow audiences on ten dates along Australia’s east coast with special appearances at The Courier Mail Spiegeltent as a part of Brisbane Festival and Gosford’s Coaster Festival. For the remaining eight shows, Bull will be joined by Spring Skier, the acoustic/pop side project of Kane Mazlin and Remy Boccalatte from Hungry Kids of Hungary.
With this in mind, the anticipation is set for The Phantom Pains Tour.
