
McMANUS ENTERTAINMENT is delighted to announce Ali Campbell's UB40 will headline at Raggamuffin 2012, Australia’s premier reggae music festival.
The one and only original voice of ‘Red Red Wine’, ‘Kingston Town’ and ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’, returns to Australia with his new band. As lead singer with the world-renowned group UB40, Campbell has sold over 70 million records worldwide, toured across the globe, notched up four number No. 1 worldwide singles, over 40 Top 40 UK singles, released 24 studio albums and received an Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement.
Reggae is Jamaica’s largest cultural export, and since its humble beginning in Kingston, it hasgrown to become a worldwide cultural and music expression. Over the last four years, Raggamuffin has enthralled over 50,000 fans across Australia. Campbell – one of the world’s most distinctive and recognizable voices – is the first of a series of international and local artists to be announced for Australia’s biggest reggae event, with shows held in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
The Raggamuffin festival has garnered worldwide press and is considered an integral part of the reggae touring circuit. Ali Campbell has stated, “Raggamuffin is one of the best reggae festivals in the world. It has an amazing vibe and I really enjoyed performing for the Australian fans”.
Raggamuffin promoter Andrew McManus says he is over the moon to have secured Ali Campbell for 2012. “He’s reggae royalty,” says McManus. “Our 5th anniversary event will be our biggest yet.”
A whole generation has grown up listening to Ali Campbell’s infectious vocals on classics like ‘Red Red Wine’, ‘Don’t Break My Heart’, ‘Here I Am’ and ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’.
In October 2007, Ali released a solo album, Running Free, featuring many guest artists including, amongst others, Smokey Robinson, Mick Hucknall and Sly and Robbie the album was a success and went top 10 in the UK charts and attained goldstatus.
