Album Release News Weekly: Friday 8 June 2012

A huge list of releases this week with some much anticipated albums and popular artists in the mix including UK band The Vaccines, The XX, Periphery, Dntel and a live DVD from Danko Jones. Local releases include Sophie Koh, Wooshie and Expatriate.

STRANGERS

The Sydney band has recently performed in Melbourne and signed onto Shock’s Permanent Records and will have their debut album out in August this year. Their single ‘Persona non grata’ is out now.

KELLY HOGAN

The singer has released her new album I like To keep Myself in Pain today on Epitah. The album is an incredible blend of classic pop, soul and country and features music written by M. Ward and John Wesley Harding.

THE VACCINES

The break through British band of 2011, The Vaccines, are back with a new single titled ‘No Hope’ and a new album to be released 31 August through Sony. The album, The Vaccines Come of Age will be much anticipated by listeners and follows up on the band’s huge success in 2011 at the Brits and NME with their debut.

THE XX

The band has announced the release date of their upcoming second album Coexist. The album will be released 7 September after the band’s break since their 2009 debut. The album will be out on Remote Control Records.

PERIPHERY

The progressive metal band has announced the release date for their new album Periphery II for the end of this month. The album will be out 29 June through Roadrunner Records Australia and will feature solos from guest artists such as Wes Hauch (The Faceless) and Guthrie Govan (The Aristocrats).

BADDIES

Baddies will be releasing their second record this month on 18 June through their own Medicine label. Their first album was met with praise from NME to BBC and everyone in between and the new album Build is not to be missed.

JOHN MAUS

Ribbon Music will release John Maus’ A Collection of Rarities and Previously Unreleased Material on 14 July. The 16 track collection will comprise of the artists eleven years of musical work.

WOOSHIE

The Melbourne producer will debut this month with his long-awaited EP Boyfriend Material. Dylan Michel aka Wooshie will release the EP on This Thing Records & tapes.

URTHBOY

Getting Daniel Merriweather on board, Urthboy has a new single out titled ‘Naïve Bravado’. The rest of the new album will be out later in the year in October and is set to tour throughout August/September.

EXPATRIATE

The four-piece have been everywhere and every club of late and the Sydney group will celebrate with a new single ‘Do You Remember’ from their upcoming album Hyper/Hearts which will officially be out 6 July via Dew Process/Universal.

DANKO JONES

Danko Jones is due to release their first DVD. Bring On The Mountain will be a two disc set and documentary on the band’s successful career with some of their best performances from around the world. The DVD will be released 19 June.

CATHERINE BRITT

Always never enough will be the artists new 13 track record which features Guy Clark and Australia’s own Tim Rogers. The album will be the 5th for Catherine Britt and will be out 10 August through Universal Music.

SOPHIE KOH

The third album from the Melbourne songwriter is titled Oh My Garden and departs from her previous work. The new album will see Sophie take on new grounds and expand as an artist musically. The album is out 6 July through Crying Ninja Records/MGM.

DAN DEACON

The artist will bring a new album out this year titled America on 24 august through EMI. The album will be the artist’s most powerful work to date and the product of years of creating music around the world.

O CHILDREN

Already getting praise from the critics even before its release, Apnea is available now through Deadly People. The new album will also produce the single ‘Chimera’ which will be released 11 June.

DANCING HEALS

The Melbourne four-piece have returned from a short break this year to launch their debut album next month in Sydney on 6 July. The album Into The Night will be released 25 June through MGM.

DNTEL

The electronic extraordinaire (aka Jimmy Tamborello) has released his new album Aimlessness through Pampa Records. The 12 track electronic journey features Nite Jewel and the single ‘Still’ Feat. Baths.

PAT TIERNEY

The Brisbane based blues/roots/folk/country artist will release his self-produced EP on 14 June. The EP will include the catch new single ‘Time to Leave this Town’.

SIREN TOWER

Siren Tower have launched their new album A History of Houses at the Hi-Fi in Melbourne. The band will also laumch the album with support from The Loved Dead on 14 June at The Prince Of Wales in WA and 15 June in Perth.

SPANISH PRISONERS

The Brooklyn outfit of four will follow up on their 2011 album ‘Gold Fools’ with a new album at the end of this month titled Prior Art. The album will be accompanied by four tour dates in the U.S and will be released on 26 June.

BEACHWOOD SPARKS

The LA country rock act are back after a lengthy 11 year break. The band will return with a new album titled The Tarnish Gold on 22 June on Sub Pop via Inertia.

COSMO JARVIS

Cosmo Jarvis have released their new album Think Bigger. The album includes the new single ‘Love This’ which is also out now.

DISCLOSURE

The duo has recently signed on to the new label from Andrew Jackson and Claire Collins, Avoca Drive and released their new EP The Face.

ARCHITECTS

The highly anticipated new album Daybreaker from the UK band has been released. The band also has a set of tour dates in Canada on the agenda for later on in the year.

SUGAR ARMY

Sugar Army have announced their tour for their new album Summertime Heavy which will be released 7 September through Permanent Records.

BANG BANG ROCK N ROLL

The Sydney garage rock band have released their five track debut EP Do It through Makeyourself Records.

Public Image LTD have released the new album This is PiL. The 12 track record has been released through Fuse.

SHERRY RICH

Dakota Avenue is the new album from the Melbourne singer/songwriter , recorded with the late Jay Bennett and members of Wilco in Chicago between 1999-2001. The album will be launched 14 July.

CALAIS

Brisbane band Calais have released their second EP In Hindsight and is now available for download on bandcamp.

EPITAH

The label is set to release its annual Mixtape Sampler from its artists. The complication will include New Found Glory, Pennywise and Motion City Soundtrack.
