Photo Gallery: The AU Sessions #002 ft. GOLDHEIST + Rowen - The Hive Bar, Erskineville (31.03.15)

The second AU sessions hit Erskineville's Hive Bar last night, with Sydney based GOLDHEIST and Brisbane's Rowen (pictured) playing intimate acoustic sets. The event marked Rowen's first ever performance in Sydney and she did a stellar job, impressing with her powerful voice on the acoustic guitar. GOLDHEIST - aka Hester Fraser - meanwhile, delivered a stunning thirty minute set to the well attended night! Thanks to both artists for performing and we look forward to seeing you at the third event next month! Stay tuned to our sessions page for more details.

Album Review: Death Cab For Cutie - Kintsugi (2015 LP)

The term Kintsugi is a beautiful one (the Japanese word for the art of mending broken pottery) and as the title of Death Cab For Cutie's eighth studio album it's a good indication of where the band stands in both sadness and heartache. 2011’s Codes and Keys, brought an upbeat indie rock style but now, since the many changes over the last year, the band have officially translated all their feelings about everything that's happened in one record.

Watch Tove Lo, Clean Bandit, Elle King and Ivy Levan Performing at Perez Hilton's One Night in Austin during SXSW 2015

This year SXSW saw the 8th Annual Perez Hilton's One Night in Austin Showcase come to life again. Created to benefit the work of the Vh1 Save The Music Foundation, the 2015 event offered an array of performances by the likes of Tove Lo, Clean Bandit, Elle King and Ivy Levan. The AU review was lucky enough to be there to capture some teaser clips of the artists doing what they do best...

the AU Interview: Marina Diamandis of Marina and the Diamonds (Wales) talks new album, her enduring aesthetic, cartoons and more

Marina Diamandis, the creative force behind Marina And The Diamonds, is back this year with a new record and a new tour that brings more of her eclectic, quirky pop sound to the masses. Marina was kind enough to answer some questions for the AU review about her style, her music, and her new album Froot.

Live Review: Dorsal Fins - The Gasometer, Melbourne (27.03.15)

Noise rock is the heart of the Melbourne rock scene. Sorry, but it's the truth. While you have your Chet Fakers dominating the land of melancholy-subdued-sad boy-electronica and your Amity Afflictions doing whatever they're doing, the local scene is writhing with grimy garagey goodness. And of this goodness Dorsal Fins are arguably one of the best. A ten-piece trash masterpiece filled with members of both Saskwatch and Eagle and the Worm? It's not surprising that despite only finding themselves releasing their debut album Mind Renovation this year the band are dotting festival lineups all around.

the AU interview at SXSW: Steve Smyth (Sydney) talks SXSW, partying, touring, Byron Bay Bluesfest and what's next

the AU review's Larry Heath caught up with Aussie musician Steve Smyth at SXSW. In this interview, Steve tells us about his SXSW experience, "I've come for the party, and to enjoy and catch up with great bands all in the one place..." Bar-hopping was also definitely on the agenda, "the drinks just keep flowing (they're very generous with their pours)... It's such a circus, it's wild."

the AU interview at SXSW: Years & Years (UK) on airplay vs social media and breaking new music markets in 2015!

Photo: Mike Massaro

The final night of the SXSW Music Festival is upon us as I sit down with British trio Years & Years in the lobby of The Intercontinental for a chat. The band had at that point, battled their fair share of live show obstacles during the festival, but had been meeting expectations as one of the buzz bands of SXSW 2015. Later on that evening, they would bring it all home with a triumphant late night club set at the Empire Control Room.

International artists we would love to see play Soulfest 2015

After bringing the likes of D' Angelo and Maxwell down to Australia (and New Zealand) for the first time - and for the first time, making an Australian (and New Zealand) festival the envy of those around the world - Soulfest is back for its second year to once again show us that the demand for good hip hop, soul, and R&B isn't going anywhere. While we'll always be appreciative to Soulfest simply because they made that dream line-up actually happen, it's hard to deny a few teething issues for the first year around. We're looking towards the second edition though, and with the line up coming soon we thought it'd be good to put together a wish-list of sorts and present you with some international artists we think would be a really good fit for Soulfest.

Album Review: Nantes - Limbo (2015 EP)

Sydney act Nantes have been in and around the local music scene for a few years now and are looking to cement their position within the landscape with their new EP Limbo. Far removed from previous releases, Limbo is a much more cohesive record that touches on heavier topics and is both thematically and lyrically much more darker than the group's earlier work.
