Single Stream: Here We Go Magic "Make Up Your Mind" (2012)

Brooklyn band Here We Go Magic return with the single "Make Up Your Mind" taken from the forthcoming album A Different Ship, produced by Radiohead's "sixth member" and producer Nigel Godrich who became ‘a big fan’ after watching their set at the 2010 Glastonbury Festival. ...a funky little number with some interesting vocal effects that seems to rely heavily on post production, leading me to believe that Here We Go Magic may be one of those bands who are sure to go down better on record than they do live. Will be interesting to see if they can pull this off for an entire album's worth of material when the LP is released later this year. 7/10

I'm really loving the funky instrumental - the vocal style also works perfectly with it. I think the chorus is a bit weak but the the effects they keep adding to the base more than makes up for it. 7.5/10

I dig it for the most part; it's nicely layered and the band evidently weas their influences with pride and relish without giving in and creating "homages" (read: derivatives) in their music. That said, there's a lot going on and it seems to rely quite a bit on the production...I have a nasty feeling that on record they'll sound fantastic, but will fall rather flat for live performances a la MGMT. 7/10
