Some know him as Dr. House, some as "the guy opposite Fry", while others just know him as Hugh Laurie... but few know him as a musician. Nonetheless, a musician he is, and he has put out a cover of the classic Ray Charles track "Hallelujah, I Love Her So" which seems to get us into the Holiday season every time we listen to it. Here now is the track and two reviews from our contributors. Happy holidays, y'all!
Review by Elliot Brennan:
You have to give him credit. Hugh Laurie (commonly known as Dr House) doesn't need the money to put out music. He earns close to a million dollars an episode for his hit show House. Music is a labour of love. He's not an exceptionally talented musician, he's middle of the road, pleasant, your-mum-will-like-his-music-for-his-charm sort of stuff. His latest single "Hallelujah, I Love Her So" is a well produced soul track (think double bass, piano and a chorus of happy hand clapping). It's pleasant background music for christmas lunch and an unoffensive, albeit uninspired, gift for your mother. 6/10
Review by Jennifer Morgan:
When I first listened to Hugh Laurie’s cover of “Hallelujah I Love Her So”, I was easily able to imagine myself listening to the song while standing on the streets of New Orleans, surrounded by musicians rocking out on their ancient porches. Hugh has a great gospel, blues voice and this really shows. The piano and sax feature heavily, over all creating a strong and melodious sound. Hugh may not be Ray Charles, but he is pretty damn good. 9/10
