Another installment of Critics Corner, and this week we turn to Melbourne's Gosteleradio and their new single "Wave". I'm proud to have convinced the Editor-in-Chief, Larry Heath, to have come on board to review this one, seated this week against Melbourne's Kat Mahina! Read on for the announcement of the single launch party - Of course, you can have a listen too, right here!
Review by Kat Mahina (Melbourne):
Melbourne’s Gosteleradio have delivered another dreamy, epic tune with their new single ‘Wave‘, taken from their forthcoming sophomore album due for release in 2011. The boys excel in chilled out ambience that is drenched in the right blend of nostalgia, melancholy, and sublime vocal harmonies that provide the perfect backdrop for the impending summer weather. ‘Wave’ doesn’t stray far from the singular vibe pursued on Great Deeds Against the Dead, but what Gosteleradio lack in sonic variation, they make up for with floating decadent soundscapes that overflow with passion and longing. Score: 7/10
Review by Larry Heath (Sydney):
I've listened to this track about 10 times since I first received it about a week ago, and I honestly love it. It's quickly become one of my favourite tracks of the year. Sure, there's a little too much Pink Floyd in there to consider this something new and original, but what is these days? It's just a damn good song, well constructed, with some fantastic vocal orchestrations to boot. I'm quite interested to see what these boys pull off live... Score: 8.5/10
