First band for my night was Ghostwood, and holy fuck! It was amazing, to put it simply. Though highly unprofessional for me to say it in such terms, there isn’t much I can say about that does not contain expletives in regards to this band and how they managed to completely blow me away.
Floating vocals, guitar, drums and bass, lots of echo and distortion creating a haunting atmosphere that blanketed Roxanne Parlour from corner to corner, there was no way you could ignore them. Having spent most part of the last 18 months in the UK obviously did them some good because they have come back bolder than ever. Primal Scream-esque “Rest My Soul” seemed to go on forever like some sort of spiritual experience. I realise it sounds like I am gushing, but it really was such an amazing performance from the band, not something you watched, but witnessed.
Then of course was Lost Valentinos, with their tropical dance anthems, including last years crowd-pleaser "The Bismarck" and "Serio". The last time I had seen this band was 12 months ago, and so I was pretty excited to catch them again to see if and how they may have evolved over the last year. Effervescent and upbeat, the live renderings of their songs forced you to move around and dance, synth-laced and quick drums, though maintained this dark and mysterious sort of appeal which added to the sharp edge of their set and fueled by the ‘ancient civilizations’ thematics and theatrics of their tunes. Though not completely up my alley, they make interesting dance music that can keep you on your feet from go-to-whoa.
