Ghost Hotel's set at Yah Yahs in Fitzroy was sandwiched in between Henry Skerrit, Manny Fox's Hangmans Club & Lightning Jack. They are a very tight band and were a huge standout from the other acts on previously. They've obviously been working very hard to get to the level they're at currenly. This seems to be a trait of Perth based bands.

They comprise of Aaron Gibson - Guitar/vocals, Jack Kennedy - Bass, Stevie Rea - Drums/vocals, Jake Snell - Guitar/vocals, Paul Wood - Guitar/vocals.

The band spent so long setting up they only got to play a short set. The tediousness of the set up and full soundcheck paid off though, because the sound was excellent for such a small room. The crowd wasn't huge, but it obviously appreciated the guys.

Moving between pop/rock and country feels the guitarists swap the lead vocal responsibilities for each song. This adds a lot of variety to the music. The harmonies created by the number or great singers in the band are powerful and really filled up the room. Guitarist Paul Wood (originally from Red Jezebel) had an abundance of guitars with him. I assume they all had different tunings. Why else would you need 7 guitars for a 20 minute gig? It was interesting, but it worked best when he and Gibson both played their Les Paul Juniors.

The stand out for the night was their single, the anthemic "Let Your Hand Be Your Guide". It's a poweful and well written song and worked especially well live. It's not often you come across a band of this calibre in a little pub in Fitzroy. It's easy to see why Powederfinger has taken them along on tour.
