Elizabeth Bay House, the recently opened The Governors Table at Museum of Sydney and Vaucluse House will each present a special Colonial High Tea Series inspired by the stories and collections of these magnificent heritage sites, each weekend in September and the first weekend in October. The Colonial High Tea Menu is priced at only $49 per person and includes a sumptuous high tea selection, a glass of Australian sparkling wine, teas and coffee. The very in-demand Botanist stall will be themed as always at Kirribilli Markets – think hanging plants, safari hats and flowers galore – and they will be selling a selection of their ever popular delicious sliders and non-alcoholic punches. Award winning Australian interior design company, Design Clarity, has partnered with international Michelin star restaurant Din Tai Fung to deliver an immersive dining experience at their latest location in Sydney’s new Central Park. Inspired by the restaurant’s origins in Taipei, the interior design draws on the simplified street market/cityscape elements that are famous throughout Asia, and features a theatrical ‘display kitchen’ playing on the celebrated ‘vendors cart’ which showcases the scientific precision and culinary skills that create the edible artwork of each dumpling. The dining space transforms into a back lane feel reminiscent of the tourist experience discovering an unexpected food haven beyond the main strip of a foreign city. Australia is in the midst of a craft beer boom with over a million people switching from mainstream brands, and three former bankers are at the forefront of this trend launching, a new one-stop shop for discovering and buying Australia’s best craft beer. The number of Australian adults consuming craft beer in an average four-week period has increased to more than one million for the first time, defying the downward trend of local mainstream beers, according to new research by Roy Morgan. But despite its growing popularity, the best craft beers have to date been largely unavailable in bottle shops; only 3.3% of the $6.7 billion annual beer market in Australia is craft beer, according to IBISWorld. Any restaurant that occupies famed Sydney nightclub/gig space Goodgod Small Club is destined for great things, and so the recent launch of the exotic Jonkanoo Caribbean Canteen has been received extremely well so far. The club and restaurant are kicking things up a notch and launching their new collaboration this week; a series of themed nights titled 'Full Up!'

Hosted by legendary Sydney reggae figure and entertainer Mikey Glamour, Full Up! will deliver classic Jamaican riddims and delicious Caribbean food to the Goodgod Front Bar every Thursday night. Selectors gathered to spin on the nights include Nick Toth (Dutty Dancing), Jimmy Sing (Goodgod), Prince Andrew, and plenty of surprises.

2014 is being claimed as the “vintage of the century” in the Hunter Valley, and backing onto a standout 2013 vintage, there was definitely cause for celebration at the Clear Image Hunter Valley Wine Show. Celebrating the 40th vintage of one of the country’s oldest regional wine shows proved to be another good reason for the Hunter Valley to kick up its heels at the Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley this afternoon. With almost 400 locals, winemakers and out-of-town guests in attendance, some 20 trophies were awarded but the highlights were arguably the Best Dry White Wine of the Show, which was awarded to Tyrrell’s 2006 Vat 1 Semillon and the trophy for the Best Dry Red Wine of the Show going to Pepper Tree Wines 2011 Tallawanta Grand Reserve Shiraz. A team of respected wine show judges led by Jim Chatto in his third year as Chair of Judges immersed themselves in 738 Hunter Valley wines from 73 producers this week in Singleton.

A special VIP trade and media tasting hosted by 2014 Hunter Valley Wine Show judges and winemakers featuring the award-winning wines will be held in Melbourne on September 16 from 10am-12pm at Bellota and in Sydney on September 17 at Fix St James from 4-6pm. These nights will begin with Folklore, and moving onto Roller Dog Thursdays and brand spanking new club night, Cheval Noir, that will offer something for every reveler. The week will kick off with a new comedy night downstairs at Easy Tiger on Tuesday, featuring some of the best local and national artists, followed by new live music night, Folklore,, on Wednesdays which will bring the best local bands and artists to the stage for a night of chilled out folk and art from the likes of Direwolf, Jacob Pearson and Hannah Darling. After weeks of fierce competition, the public votes have been collated to determine the ‘Favourite’ in each of the 12 categories in the MYOB Melbourne Market Awards. Traders from Queen Victoria Market, South Melbourne Market, Prahran Market and Dandenong Market were eligible. The number of votes received more than doubled compared to last year, with almost 9,000 shoppers voting, in a strong show of support for these iconic Melbourne places and people.

Following the success of the inaugural Melbourne Market Awards in 2013, four new categories were added (Eateries, Nursery & Flowers, Fashion & Accessories and Services) to celebrate the diversity and talent throughout the Markets. The results can be seen below:

The ‘Favourites’ are now in the running to be crowned Melbourne’s ‘Best’ Trader in their respective categories.
