F&L News: Eastland Shopping Centre revamped, brings the likes of Jimmy Grants Deluxe, Pacos Tacos and Huxtaburger to new Town Square (Ringwood)

Eastern Melbourne… boy, are you guys about to get a treat. The area is set to become a culinary hotspot, with a reimagined Town Square as part of Eastland’s $665m re-development.

This unique partnership between Eastland and Maroondah City Council will bring about a new lease on the old shopping centre, designed to create engaging experiences for a vibrant and evolving urban community. “We will bring Melbourne’s epicurean spirit to Eastland, changing the way Eastern Melbourne experiences food by introducing new dining concepts and giving residents access to culinary maestros on their doorstep,” says Steve Edgerton, centre manager of the new Eastland. “This is just the beginning of a raft of culinary experiences that will be unveiled on completion of the new development, with further partners to be announced in the coming weeks.”

One of the culinary maestros taking up residence in Eastland is celebrity chef George Calombaris, who will be introducing a new dining concept for his popular modern Athenian souvlaki bar, Jimmy Grants Deluxe. The new store will differ from the others by featuring an extended menu and table service. “I’m excited to be opening Jimmy Grants in the newly developed Eastland Town Square. It’s the first store to open outside of the CBD,” says Calombaris. “Jimmy is all about the people, so I can’t wait to bring it to the people of Eastern Melbourne”.

Movida’s Frank Camorra and Andy McMahon, will also be bringing their festive Mexican taqueria, Pacos Tacos, to the new Eastland. “For us, Pacos Tacos is a manifestation of the culinary ambitions of this city; it is vibrant and fresh with a great sense of community,” said Camorra. “The new Eastland shares our epicurean vision, so we are excited about this launch.”

Joining Calombaris and Camorra are Dante Ruaini, Jeff Wong and Daniel Wilson, the team behind the iconic Huxtaburger. With sweet brioche buns and grass-fed Wagyu patties, this is a gourmet burger joint like no other.

For sweet-tooths, the new Town Square will feature Gelatieri – an artisan ice-creamery that will be the first store outside Italy for the Lavezzi family, who have been churning ice cream since 1870. Hunter & Barrel, a gastro-inspired casual dining concept will be serving up quality meat on skewers, soups and stews along with barrel-aged cocktails and craft beers. Meanwhile, The Cellar Door rooftop vegetable garden and bar will be celebrating the Yarra Valley region, with its own provedore in collaboration with the Yarra Valley Dairy. Local identities Dale White and Rebecca Gallagher of Bekendales and The Public Brewery will be at the helm, offering Yarra Valley wines alongside their own craft beers and ciders. Other exciting venues to be opened at Eastland include AngAng by Chinta Ria Soul, Casa Mia by Mario Di Nardo, as well as the popular South Melbourne fish and burger bar, Hunky Dory.

With such iconic names already announced, Eastland’s reimagined Town Square looks set to bring together the finest in contemporary gastronomy, fashion, style and design. The first stage of the development will launch in late 2015, with stage two due for completion in mid 2016.
