On the Shelf: Grand Ferrero Rocher

The nutty chocolate taste is perceptible almost immediately as soon as someone mentions the great Ferrero Rocher. One of the most distinctive and loved balls of chocolate has long been a big player on special occasions around the world. There’s something about those roasted hazelnuts embedded in a wafer-thin chocolate shell, filled with gooey hazelnut chocolate, that sends chocolate lovers into frenzy. It’s not hard to understand why Ferrero Rocher is so popular, though it is hard to understand why it’s taken so long for them to take the beloved chocolate to the next level.

The brand has now added a super-sized Grand Ferrero Rocher to the family, pushing it just in time for Christmas. We recently tried one of these large, 240g treats, which brings in the same texture and taste of the classic but just on a much larger, and more indulgent scale.

After you unwrap the sizeable chocolate you’re presented with a case housing a bumpy chocolate shell, much like the classic Ferrero Rocher, with the same thick, rich taste and nutty texture thanks to numerous hazelnut pieces. The shell encases four smaller Ferrero pralines inside. Sadly, this isn’t “one big ferrero rocher” as you won’t get the same deliciously gooey inside, but the thick chocolate shell has more than enough to make you forget about the missing ingredient.

You can find one of these at any Woolworths, Coles, Big W, Target, or Priceline for an RRP of $17.99 each. You can also get a smaller one at 125g from Metcash, David Jones, or Myer at an RRP of $8.99. Note, the smaller ones only include 2 Ferrero Rocher pralines inside.
