MORE INFO ABOUT THIS ARTIST AND TOUR:

Stunning contemporary music trio Misinterprotato tour the country with the Sound Travellers project to showcase their eagerly anticipated 4th album “The Gentle War”.

Recorded in the serene surrounds of Tallebudgera and then mixed in Minneapolis by Brent Sigmeth the resulting album is a bold step forward for the group, cementing their place as an ensemble with a truly individual approach to music making. As the title suggests, “The Gentle War” is simultaneously thunderous and hushed, and remarkably compelling.

The Brisbane trio, comprising of Sean Foran (piano), John Parker (drums) and Pat Marchisella (acoustic bass), are no strangers to Brisbane audiences but 2010 see’s the group really begin to take off. They’ve completed a tour of the UK, collaborative projects with classical group Topology and dance company Expressions and will tour this new album around Australia before heading to South America in September for performances and to China for the World Expo in October.

The latest release “The Gentle War” features their distinctive mix of dense rhythmic interactions and gentle melodic statements. The shape-shifting grooves of “Tailgater” and “Cute” are relentless while the meditative “Blues for the Space” and “Interlude” bring out some truly beautiful melodies.

The ten years of music making together has given the group a distinctly personal sound, filled with an array of engaging ideas presented with masterful technique. “The Gentle War” builds on concepts presented in their last release “Variations” but the resulting album is now more finely focused and intimate, and increasingly daring. Foran’s compositions shift and change with graceful clarity and accessibility while Parker’s works challenge the listener, taking on multiple styles and genres within a fraction of a second. Marchisella too contributes a piece, the elegant and reflective “Time”, a suitable balance to the intensity of the preceding tracks.

Live the group are mesmerising, with a free flowing exchange happening where all instruments lead. Undoubtedly this is contemporary music at it’s finest, jazz influenced but creating a new sound free of expectations and comparisons. Catch them on their Sound Travellers tour stopping in selected capital cities and regional centre around the country.
