E3 2015: DOOM returns in Spring 2016, wears old school influence on its sleeve

We’ve been hearing rumblings about the new DOOM game for some time now but Bethesda have confirmed the game will launch on PS4, PC and Xbox One next year during their E3 press conference.

Exec producer Marty Stratton took the audience through two single-player videos and a multiplayer trailer that show, at length, what players can expect from the new title. So what can you expect? Guns, gore, scares, horrible monster designs, truly visceral melee kills and the most incredible chainsaw kills you have ever seen in a video game, a sentence that I realise makes me sound like an absolute maniac. Here’s the first single-player trailer. Hold onto your butts.

The trailer shows us the old-school flavoured green military sci-fi helmet before heading straight into the combat. Shotguns. Imps. Our hero can double jump. They can split monsters open with brutal, visceral melee kills. Health and armour packs spill out of felled enemies in a fountain. You can switch weapons through a radial menu not unlikeWolfenstein: The New Order which is great. Oh man. So much good stuff.

This was followed by a short multiplayer trailer.

And then a third single player trailer that takes place in Hell.

Ugh. Is it 2016 yet? Count us in.
