The Brisbane based music festival and BIGSOUND has come and gone for another year, but the amazing performances we saw have stuck with us for the days since. Lollapalooza comes to Berlin this weekend, taking over the Tempelhof Airport on Saturday and Sunday for the first time ever in its extensive history. The event marks the festival franchise's inaugural European event and as we look ahead to the weekend of live music from the likes of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Tame Impala, Muse, Fatboy Slim and more, it's no surprise that the latest addition to the European festival circuit has well and truly sold out. A mixture of heavy hitting international touring artists, as well as a strong line up of DJs and producers has set the tone for an impressive debut in the territory for Lollapalooza and we're going to be on site for all the action!

BIGSOUND Day two taught us about the roots of hip-hop, gave us hard evidence of the effect a producer has on music, and, rightfully, pulled the industry's devaluation of women into the spotlight.

Seven Things We Learned at the Beats Sound Symposium

In recent months Apple has aggressively expanded its digital entertainment platforms, spearheaded by the streaming service Apple Music and the 24 hour radio station Beats 1. Beats 1 is headed up by Zane Lowe, who positioned himself as a premier tastemaker during a 12-year stint at BBC Radio 1. He was joined by an eclectic panel at Studios 301 in Sydney for the first Beats Sound Symposium to take place in Australia, to discuss music production, the evolution of music distribution, and the changes that are ahead for the industry at large. Moderated by Beats by Dre President Luke Wood, the panel included musician Jarryd James, Eleven label president John Watson, producer Anna Lunoe, and CEO of ARIA Dan Rosen.
