The Getaway Plan to return with new material and the "Reclamation Tour"

In news that has excited fans all around Australia, alternative rockers The Getaway Plan have announced a reclamation tour for February 2011. Tahlia Pritchard brings us up to date on the news...

When Melbourne quartet The Getaway Plan announced their split in February 2009, after 5 years together, they cited: “There comes a point in everyone’s lives where they must sit back and assess if everything is working the way it should be. We have come to a decision that The Getaway Plan will no longer continue to make music together.”

The split took fans by surprise, as the band had only released their hit debut album Other Voices, Other Rooms a year previously, riding off the commercial success of hit singles such as ‘Streetlight,’ ‘Where The City Meets The Sea,’ and ‘Shadows’- as well as selling out three headline tours and playing at one of Australia’s most noted music festivals, Big Day Out.

June/July 2009 saw the band take their show on the road one last time in the finale tour, playing sold out shows all over Australia to show their appreciation to the fan-base that had stuck by them through their journey. The band members then pursued their own individual musical journeys, with bands such as Young Heretics, The Amity AfflictionDeez Nuts and Hopeless.

In September 2010, The Getaway Plan revived for a one-off show for youth depression, with the support of other stellar Australian bands Stealing O’NealSecrets In ScaleBuilt on Secrets and Cheerleader, with front-man Matthew Wright announcing at the end of one the shows ‘The clock is ticking…anything is possible.’

Sparking fans interest, numerous countdowns were placed on the bands website, with a new video being released every Monday, showing short snippets of the bands adventures.

On Friday the 19th of November, the last countdown finished with the band confirming fans hopes:

“We’re happy to announce we are currently in the middle of writing new music for a release sometime next year. In celebration of this we are also doing a small tour next February, playing a selection of new and old material.”

The band also thanked fans for being supportive and sticking out the past two years.

The Getaway Plan’s ‘Reclamation Tour’ kicks off February 9 next year, hitting up cities Perth, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne. In an interview on Triple J radio, the band confirmed they’d be going overseas next April, to record their new release, roughly scheduled for a release in late winter.

Tickets are released at 9am, December 16 and fans are urged to purchase straight away in order to avoid disappointment. The Getaway Plan’s revival shows sold out in just 9 hours.
