Gettin' to know the Glaswegians #03: WHITE

Back in June, we featured the single “Living Fiction” from a band called Glasgow called WHITE. It was a track I loved so much I gave it a 10/10 score in my single review. As we take some time to feature bands out of the city, it wouldn’t have been complete without taking a moment to get to know these guys a bit better. After all, they do live in a world of mystery… So let’s take a moment…

How did WHITE form?

WHITE were introduced to each other via a mutual friend, an artist & fashion designer in Glasgow. They liked what they heard from each other, and the rest is not yet history, but maybe will be soon…

How would you best describe your sound?

WHITE love EMS synthesizers, razor-sharp Telecasters, big drums, swooping vocals drenched in more reverb than Hamilton Mausoleum. We love Berlin in the ’70s, Postcard Records, YMO…and pop music. We want to keep you on your lyrical toes with the odd big word or two, and hey, while we’ve got you on those toes, we might as well get you dancing.

And what about your live show?

Brash. Loud. Danceable. Unpredictable. Confident. A frontman that is part-Nick Cave and part-Jacques Brel.

The fourth wall? WHITE see the fourth wall – they see it, and they welcome it, shake its hand, sit it down quietly. They then subject the fourth wall to mental and physical tests of near impossible ferocity, leaving it shattered, haggard, wild-eyed and broken. They take the fourth wall into a bare room, but for a small mirror hanging at the far end, and they position the fourth wall in front of that mirror and watch its eyes slowly fix. And they ask, “who is that?” And after those silent minutes which feel like hours, only when the fourth wall turns, looks at them and softly mouths, “I don’t know…” Only then is the WHITE live show ready. What I mean is, we do jump off the stage occasionally.

Tell us about “Living Fiction”

Our latest, first and so far only single is “Living Fiction” – Television meets Miami Vice, but the band Television, not the media format television, obviously it and Miami Vice are pretty well-acquainted. We hope you enjoy it.

What else do you have planned?

That would be telling…

Who else should we be listening to from Glasgow

The Junto Club, Roxy Agogo, Lilac Pin, Baby Strange and Saint Max and the Fanatics.
