The same old argument comes up again and again; have we reached festival oversaturation? The promoters of Canberra's mainstay Stonefest released this earlier today:

After the huge success of STONEFEST 2010, The Frontier Touring Company and University of Canberra’s UC Live! have teamed up again to present the lineup for the much-awaited STONEFEST 2011 taking place on Saturday 29 October.

Truly long running music festivals in Australia are few and far between. To most observers, Big Day Out would take that cake - kicking off in 1992. But when placed against a festival like Glastonbury, which started out in some form over 40 years ago, it pales in comparison. But believe it or not, we do have a few festivals with a similar length history in Australia. And one of them is Canberra's Stonefest.
With just over one week to go until the grand event, the triple j Unearthed winner has been announced – Los Capitanes will be gracing the Stonefest stage Saturday 30th October.
Comprised of Jesse Sewell (drums), Dave Rodriguez (electric guitar), Rob Lee (trombone), Kieran Smits (bass), Tim Kent (vocals) and Julian Barker (trumpet), Los Capitanes are Canberra natives familiar with the revered festival and thrilled to be added to the lineup for the first time.
We just received the following press release from Stonefest management:
STONEFEST 2010 - Bigger, Brighter, Bolder!
SATURDAY 30 OCTOBER at the University of Canberra
The Frontier Touring Company, in association with the University of Canberra’s entertainment division UC LIVE!, are thrilled to announce the lineup for this year’s hotly anticipated Stonefest festival scheduled for Saturday 30 October 2010 and held on the University’s grounds.
