Dungog Festival reveals its full film line-up with restored Cult Classic StarStruck, and announces $20,000 Metro Screen scholarship

The Hunter Valley Dungog Festival has announced its full film program two weeks ahead of its launch. The festival will feature a restored screening of Australian 1982 cult classic StarStruck, as well as a series of short film screenings, a short film competition, and announcement about two new Metro Screen Scholarships.

Stage and screen designer, Brian Thomson (StarStruck, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Priscilla: Queen of the Desert) will kick off the festival with the special event In Conversation with Brian Thomson, alongside a digital restoration screening of 1982 Australian Cult classic film StarStruck, which depicts the wild adventures of aspiring singer Jackie (Jo Kennedy) and her enthusiastic cousin Angus (Ross O’Donovan).

The Dungog Festival short film competition will see filmmakers judged across four categories by a panel of iconic Australian film and television judges, including, David Field (The Combination, The Secret Daughter), Matt Day (Rake, Perry) and Sue Smith (Mabo, Saving Mr Banks). The Dungog Festival has also announced that the Australian Directors Guild will be launching two brand new Metro Screen Scholarships at the Short Film Competition Awards presentationThe scholarships will be valued at $20,000 and $15,000 each year for the next three years, and will be awarded to emerging NSW filmmakers.

The festival has loads of highlights in store for attendees, including documentary screenings of, Destination Arnold, The Coffee Man, and Motorkite Dreaming, alongside side Q&A’s with stars, directors, and producers. In addition, attendees can look forward to visiting the Virtual Reality Lounge, Long Table Dinner, Wine Matching lunch with celebrity chef Christine Manfield, and beer and sausage making workshops.
