Flight Review: Air Canada - Flying Business Class from Vancouver to Sydney (AC33)

When boarding a long haul flight, there are few greater moments of jealously one experiences than seeing someone in business class enjoying a glass of champagne on a seat that you know lies flat and ensures no one is going to be climbing over you for the entire duration of the flight. Well, last month I was lucky enough to get an upgrade on one of the world's longest routes, from Vancouver (Canada) to Sydney, and experience the luxury for myself. So, has that jealously been warranted? Let's find out:

Hotel Review: Kensington Riverside Inn - Calgary, Alberta (Canada)

Boasting excellent service and a great location for those visiting Calgary, the Kensington Riverside Inn is a high level, contemporary boutique hotel. Situated in the trendy area of Kensington, this hotel is just across the road from the beautiful Bow River, an easy walk to the beautiful Prince’s Island Park and just around the block from the incredible cafes, bars and stores of Kensington.

Flight Review: Porter Airlines - Toronto City Airport to Newark, New Jersey / New York (PD147)

Getting in and out of Toronto's Pearson International Airport can be a bit of a pain. Though a new express train service installed for the Pan Am Games in June has made the process of getting in and out a slightly less tiresome affair, it remains an expensive one. Luckily, for some routes, another airport lays within literal walking distance of the centre of the city. The Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport only serves two airlines - for now - Porter Airlines and Air Canada. One of its most popular routes, flying direct to New York's Newark Airport with Porter Airlines, is what Larry Heath recently tried out:

Richard Thompson performs while The Milk Carton Kids look on...

Our third day started off on stage three with the phenomenal "Define Folk" session, featuring Oysterband, Richard Thompson, Geoff Muldaur and Amos Garrett and The Milk Carton Kids. We arrived just in time for Geoff Muldaurs' delivery of "Tennessee Blues", which had a beautiful heartfelt country blues feel to it, before Richard Thompson went on to sing a gentle Celtic folk song accompanied by a rich swirl of strings.

Live Review: RBC Bluesfest in Ottawa Day Nine ft. Bahamas + Dropkick Murphys + Dear Rouge and more! (17.07.15)

Though Friday marked the ninth day (of eleven) of the 21st RBC Bluesfest in Ottawa, it would also mark our last. And with a focus on bands more suited to a traditional Bluesfest - accompanied by the sort of rainy weather that our own Byron Bay Bluesfest is famous for - it was a perfect way to bring our week at the event to an end.

Day Eight of RBC Bluesfest in Ottawa saw a strong focus upon major country acts like Keith Urban, whilst also treating us to blues, indie pop and indie rock with the likes of Donovan Woods, Mother Mother, Hilotrons and Lurrie Bell putting on impressive shows. As the festival saw a much larger influx of cowboy hats and checkered shirts (bringing back some major Calgary Stampede nostalgia), it can easily be said that a vast quantity of the crowd were out for their dose of Nashville style country music.

Live Review: RBC Bluesfest in Ottawa Day Seven ft. The Gaslight Anthem + Current Swell + Run The Jewels and more! (15.07.15)

North American Hip Hop was a dominating force on the 7th day of the RBC Bluesfest in Ottawa, though a last minute cancellation from De La Soul may have disappointed some (this writer included! They always put on a great show). US powerhouse Run The Jewels, Canadian rapper , local MC G. Grand (who filled in for De La Soul) and Montreal duo Heartstreets all showed off their take on the genre to great response. Alongside them were modern blues icons, one of Canada's biggest pop rock bands, a Scottish group playing their first show in eight months and one of Canada's finest psych rock bands.
