E3 2015: The ten most surprising announcements from E3 2015

This year’s E3 Expo was one of the most impactful and exciting in years, managing to surprise even the most jaded, cynical gaming enthusiasts with it’s many announcements and trailers. Now that the expo has drawn to a close for another year, we thought we’d round up the ten announcements, demos and trailers that took us most by surprise.

When I heard I was to review the latest game from Intelligent Systems, I got pretty excited. I’m a fan of Intelligent’s previous work, the excellent Advance Wars and Fire Emblem games in particular, and I imagined that Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. would continue the developer’s history of smart design. Sadly, Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. has some serious problems that keep it from being truly memorable.

E3 2015: Nintendo announces 8-bit Mario amiibo

Just when you thought getting hold of amiibo figures was already the hardest thing in the world, Nintendo goes and announces this work of goddammed art. That's a three-dimensional amiibo rendering of the classic 8-bit Mario sprite from Super Mario Bros.

E3 2015: Fire Emblem Fates coming to 3DS next year

Originally titled Fire Emblem if in Japan, Fire Emblem Fates will arrive in the west on Nintendo 3DS next year. The game was announced during Nintendo's E3 press con this morning.

E3 2015: The Mario & Luigi RPG series returns with Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam

The Mario & Luigi series of RPG's is crossing over with sister RPG series Paper Mario for Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. The game was announced during the Nintendo Direct E3 press briefing.

E3 2015: Hyrule Warriors Legends coming to 3DS early 2016

A port of last year's surprise hit Hyrule Warriors will appear on the Nintendo 3DS next year. Called Hyrule Warriors Legends, it will contain all the content from the Wii U version.

To Be The Very Best is a feature documentary that will follow a group of the very best Pokémon players in the world to the Pokémon Video Game World Championships. The film-makers are currently asking for help funding the project via the film's Kickstarter page. They need US$50,000 for a green-light.
