Tiki Taane + Optimus Gryme - The Hifi, Brisbane (12.12.09)

After what can only be described as a "full on" year – including selling out his first Australian solo tour in May, one of New Zealand's most progressive and respected bass merchants, Tiki Taane, has returned across the Tasman for his final tour of 2009.

Nationally respected as one of the major influences of Aotearoa dub Culture, Tiki once again brought along his all star band, The Dub Soldiers, which features fellow band member P-Digsss (Shapeshifter, Sunshine Sound System )

Seeing Tiki live was something I had been looking forward to for a longtime, and with the HiFi being an ideal venue for the performer, he and his band did not disappoint. I believe I can speak for both myself as well as any of the other rowdy "ex-pat" kiwis dubheads in attendance. I was especially blown away by P-Digsss and his massive vocals and impressive stage presence.

Joining the tour is one of Tiki's favorite DJs, Optimus Gryme. Known for his massive DJ sets and recently releasing NZs first Dubstep album "Eclipse", Optimus Gryme's incredibly dirty bass, combined with HiFis amazing acoustics, should of had every person bouncing, warming up for the main event - but sadly he was only appreciated by a small number of over-eager dubsters.

All in all I think I can safely say that the night was enjoyed by everyone who attended, Aussies and Kiwis alike.
