The Clubhouse is a relatively new concept for the Empire Hotel in Fortitude Valley, rejuvenated into a cosy corner- it’s a great new venue for tight knit crowds like the receiving end of the Cassette Kids ‘Lying Around’ tour on Friday night. Opening act Canvas Kites also from Sydney, who really are a bunch of strapping young lads, they launched into a set full of indie folk style songs with an interesting sound and a great sense of style. Lead singer dedicated one of the songs to his ‘beautiful girl friend Emma’ which had all the girls sighing with jealousy. They strummed their way through their set, with a classy demeanour to make way for the Kids.

The Cassette Kids opened with their newest single ‘Lying Around’ which had everyone in the audience amped up straight away, with lots of the crowd singing along with charismatic frontwoman Katrina Noorbergen.

Katrina really makes the act with her punchy moves and energetic set. The band followed a 12 song set with popular track ‘You Shot Me’ lending to a sea of bobbing heads, followed straight after by early release ‘Acrobat’. The new album’s title track made its debut in Brisbane, aptly named ‘Freaky Sweetie’ which is an exciting new release, available on their Myspace page now.
