Given the melodic pop that is soon to follow throughout the night, Tin Can Radio
at first to be an odd choice for first support. But that is hardly a
problem. The hazy, distorted and manic electro-pop that Tin Can Radio
embodies deserves to be exposed to all. Distorted guitars and dirty
synthesisers and spread out over extended tracks that feel like jams.
So much so Tin Can Radio seemed to not want to leave the stage. This
was my first introduction to the band, but a wildly enjoyable one at
that.

Blame Ringo are a three-piece (this is the assumption, given
their announcement of the departure of their drummer during the set)
hailing from Brisbane who produce guitar driven pop music with a large
and clear influence coming from 1960s pop music (The Beatles references
I’m sure all completely intentional). And catchy, melodic and fantastic
indie pop music at that. All three band members serve as a front man,
each taking turns leading the vocals and all regularly singing
harmonies. They are great, and the set they play also seems too short.
This is another band to watch.

It’s always a pleasure to see Ball Park Music. Tonight may
arguably one of their biggest gigs ever, their launch of the Conquer
the Town, Easy as Cake EP, and giving them a headline show at The Zoo.
The six piece took to the stage with little fanfare, but to the cheers
of a growing fan base around the Brisbane band, ever increasing in
their status. The set is suitably comprised of material from the new
EP, with older material such as brass-lead ‘Black Skies’ thrown in for
good measure. In amongst is recent single ‘IFly,’ less recent single
‘Sea Strangers’ and many others. They even include a confident cover of
The Kinks’ ‘All Day and All of the Night’ proving to be one of the
highlights of the enthusiastic set. Ball Park Music have a confident
and pleasing stage presence, their exuberance for getting their music
out there emphasised in a rain of EPs from the stage. As Ball Park
Music continue to increase their status, it will be a delight to
witness them continue their string of immensely enjoyable performances.
Other states take note; Brisbane has caught on to the infectious pop
melodies of Ball Park Music, and you may too soon enough.
