Hello Asia! KOFFIA 2015 Film Review: Love Forecast (오늘의 연애) (South Korea, 2015)

Familiar faces such as Jung Joonyoung and Lizzy star alongside Lee Seung-Gi and Moon Chae-Won in this rom-com which many claim to be about escaping the 'friend-zone', though perhaps it would not be too far off to suggest the film is moreso about realising that being friends with the person you love isn't a bad thing at all.

Hello Asia! KOFFIA 2015 Film Review: Kundo: Age of the Rampant (군도:민란의 시대) (South Korea, 2014)

Feudal Joseon historical film meets Western. That is exactly the genre I’d describe for Kundo: Age of the Rampant, with all the bandits, duels and rough humour you could want from a Western. Just think Gats instead of cowboy hats.

Hello Asia! KOFFIA 2015 Film Review: The King of Jokgu (족구왕) (South Korea, 2014)

Walk alongside the newly discharged Hong Man-Sup (Ahn Jae-Hong) as he returns to the world outside army life! We’re invited to watch him attempt to re-gain the past two years of his life as he decides that he wants to make the most of his youth: he is going to spend it both doing what he loves, and also - if he can manage it - being in love.

Hello Asia! KOFFIA 2015 Film Review: A Matter of Interpretation (꿈보다 해몽) (South Korea, 2014)

Have you ever tried to interpret your dreams? Have you ever felt that unsure feeling like you know you’ve seen something before, but perhaps feel that you only dreamt it? Or perhaps other people have tried to interpret your dreams for you, only to have you think something completely different to what you initially thought bore no consequence. When you think about it dreams are all a very curious and perplexing matter- and it’s that feeling exactly that exists in A Matter of Interpretation.

Hello Asia! KOFFIA 2015 Film Review: Factory Complex (위로공단) (South Korea, 2015)

The winner of the Silver Lion at this year’s La Biennale di Venezia, Im Heung-soon’s documentary film Factory Complex is an ode to the female working poor. The film provides a lens into the often unseen world of working women’s rights and serves as a historical record that highlights their ongoing struggle, as hard-won changes are swallowed up in a rapidly modernising world.

Hello Asia! KOFFIA 2015 Film Review: My Ordinary Love Story (내 연애의 기억) (South Korea, 2014)

I said it on Twitter and I will say it again here- I have never been so unprepared for a film’s plot progression in my life as I was for My Ordinary Love Story. It was unexpected and completely masterful.

Hello Asia! KOFFIA 2015 Film Review: A Hard Day (끝까지 간다) (South Korea, 2014)

Although a fact openly unacknowledged, everybody enjoys the spectacle that is somebody else’s misfortune. And if that misfortune is coupled with gritty action, potentially deadly consequences and flashes of humour, A Hard Day shows us that it’s downright entertaining.

Hello Asia! KOFFIA 2015 Film Review: Tazza: The Hidden Card (타짜-신의 손) (South Korea, 2014)

Hidden card indeed! Tazza: The Hidden Card is filled with so many twists and turns in the plot that you are quite literally kept at the edge of your seat for the entire film- absorbed and equally terrified about what’s going to happen next. Just like the high stakes gambling games they play.

Hello Asia! KOFFIA 2015 Film Review: How To Steal A Dog (개를 훔치는 완벽한 방법) (South Korea, 2014)

There is something truly magical about a film that manages to be unceasingly heartwarming and fuzzy despite covering a somewhat depressing subject matter. Based on a novel of the same title by Barbara O'Connor How To Steal A Dog manages to do exactly that.

Hello Asia! Live Review: SMASH x I Love Anisong – Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, Sydney (08.08.15)

More than several hundred anime devotees stayed on from the all-day SMASH! 2015 Convention to attend the first ever SMASH x I Love Anisong concert down under. With a line up of GARNiDELiA, kz (livetune), DJ Hello Kitty and yanaginagi it’s no wonder why! Everybody was armed with staff-provided glowsticks and ready for some good old-fashioned anime jamming. Doors opened up just before 7pm and the nearly three hour concert was a perfect way to cap off what had already been a spectacular day.
