Yamada Ryosuke cast as lead in 24hr TV drama special

Yamada Ryosuke from Johnny’s boy group Hey! Say! JUMP has landed his first lead role in NTV’s annual 24-hour television drama special ‘Okaasan, Ore wa Daijoubu’ (Mom, I’m Okay).

Yamada will be playing the role of high school student Sasaki Ryohei, the vice captain of the school’s soccer club who is suddenly diagnosed with a brain disease. The drama will revolve around his struggles as goes from leading a normal student life one day, to having to deal with the possibility of death the next.

Although this is the third time Yamada will be appearing in a 24hr drama special, it is the first time he has been chosen to play a lead. Speaking about his casting, the idol said, “While considering why I was chosen for this role, I would like to act with all my respect. Through the drama, I would like people to feel the importance of family love and friendship.”

The drama will be broadcast on August 22 at 9pm on NTV.
