MICF Review: 3 States of Comedy – The Downstairs Lounge at The Grand Mercure Hotel (Performances through April 19th)

If you’re looking for a good variety of Australian comedy during this year’s MICF look no further than 3 States of Comedy/i>, a triple headliner of very promising comics representing Victoria, New South Wales, and Western Australia.

Opening the show on this particular evening was Geoff Setty, whose punchy one-liners got the crowd going early on. A cleverly crafted barrage of comedy rapid-fired from Setty’s mouth, with intricate wordplay and sharp punch lines winning the audience.

Next up was Gabe Hogan. Hogan runs a more analogue based set with a light-hearted and hilarious look into her life as a dog groomer and he encounter with a troublesome wasp. Hogan

The night ended with Evan Hocking who commanded the room sans microphone with some very personal material. His down to earth persona was endearing and confident as his material pressed between self-deprecation and hilarious stories from his childhood.

Providing a great mix of styles with something for everyone, these are three comedians that are definitely worth keeping an eye on.
