Single of the Day: Youth Lagoon "The Knower" (2015)

Youth Lagoon's new track "The Knower" is a shining piece of music fitting in heralding the return of one of the most interesting artists making tunes at the moment. For Youth Lagoon (Trevor Powers), 2015 will see him release his highly anticipated third album in Savage Hills Ballroom and like "The Knower" indicates possibly some of his rawest, most stunning work to date.

Festival Review: St Jerome's Laneway Festival - Harts Mill, Port Adelaide (07.02.14)

It's another blistering hot day in Adelaide and again, the festival lovers were out in force despite the sun beating down on us all. This time, the St Jerome's Laneway Festival was held down in Port Adelaide for the first time, a result of a much needed venue change from the UniSA campus site in previous years. Many were apprehensive, given the distance from the city, but I think the Harts Mill site is going to be a great venue to host the festival, with some small changes.

Live Review: St Jerome's Laneway Festival - RNA Showgrounds, Brisbane (31.01.14)

Each year when the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival lineup is announced initially there’s both the excitement of spotting a band you’ve always wanted to see and also a vague general intrigue for the few other names you recognise from some blog or other. By the time the festival rolls around however, it’s impossible to imagine what your record collection would be like without half of those bands you were mildly interested in just a short time ago.

Live Review: Youth Lagoon + Broods - Oxford Art Factory, Sydney (30.01.14)

Laneway Festival, I could hug you if only you were a physical being and not an event. The ability to constantly bring out some of the most exciting and relevant contemporary acts year after year cannot be understated. In a bill so packed full of talented you could almost scan over it and miss Youth Lagoon. That would be your loss, because Trevor Powers makes beautifully paced insular music and when backed by a full band jumps between stunning soundscapes, psych pop, and grand rock and roll.

Youth Lagoon's Trevor Powers has ventured near and far to source sounds for new track "Worms". It's the first taste of new compilation The Space Project which sees 14 artists armed with rare recordings from space and making celestial sounds.

Youth Lagoon set for Laneway sideshows!

Another act has been added to the Laneway sideshows; gifted singer-songwriter Youth Lagoon. The Idaho-raised native first burst onto the scene in 2010 with his wondrous forward thinking sound, and in 2011 delivered his outstanding debut, The Year of Hibernation. Youth Lagoon returned in 2013 with his highly anticipated follow up LP Wondrous Bughouse, and has played countless shows across the states.

Single Stream: Youth Lagoon "Dropla" (2013)

"Dropla", the new track from Youth Lagoon, is an intriguing song that begins with faint, light sounding, high pitched male vocals - not to mention a catchy piano riff. Halfway through the mood changes and it turns quite dark, with haunting vocals, distorted and repetitive instrumentation making this middle section spooky and warped, before returning to a calmer third section. The long ending of the song still has an element of creepiness, with strange synth underneath the piano melody but it all works cohesively well.
