The line up for the 2013 Outside Lands Festival has been announced, with the San Franciscan audience set to get amongst some awesome sets courtesy of Paul McCartney, a reformed Nine Inch Nails and more. From August 9-11, Golden Gate Park will become a music lover's haven; tickets are on sale now from sfoutsidelands.com/tickets, with a portion of ticket sales going toward San Francisco's Recreation and Park Department.

While he was in Newport Beach, California, I had a chat to Francois Comtois, drummer of Californian band Young The Giant, who will soon be on our shores for Splendour in the Grass, as well as a couple of dates with fellow Californians Grouplove. We chat about their debut self-titled record, Australia, their upcoming tour with Incubus and much more….

Hello Francois, how are things going!

Californian natives Young The Giant were the darlings of SXSW this year and contrary to the media hype surrounding the five-piece, their debut album sounds more like an exercise in corporate music marketing than it does a creative endeavour.

The main problem with this record is not its lack of appealing tunes, but the fact that the music has been polished to perfection and in the process of generating a bankable project, the production has stripped away any trace of personality, originality and heart - which are three things that distinguish good music from great music.

SPIN returned to SXSW for its annual SPIN@Stubb's party. Headliners on the main stage include The Vaccines, OMD, The Kills and TV On The Radio.
