With what must have been hundreds of performances over three days on more than eight stages, Chicago's iconic Lollapalooza festival has its fair share of eclectism and choice for all attendees. And alongside the big names - from Paul McCartney to Metallica - there are plenty of unknowns too. Emerging local, national and international artists who the festival wants to give you the chance to discover. Our following feature runs through a couple of our own favourite discoveries at the festival, alongside our favourite performances from the bands we already know.
Lollapalooza is now two days and nights down, with Metallica headlining the Grant Park festival on Saturday evening. With recent Australian visitors Florence + The Machine set to bring it home on Sunday, the final day, it's safe to say that Lolla has done it up right for its 2015 event. We continue our look at the program day-by-day and bring you five bands that aren't to be missed, other than the flame-haired headliner, of course!
Day three dawns and the sun gods have visited us again – time to get alarmed, because now we know New York will be haunted with rain, fog and mugginess for the weeks to come. Only two minutes in, Canadian's Half Moon Run have set the bar for the day, with smooth harmonies and a gracefulness that makes every instrument from drum to kazoo look like an elaborately choreographed move – more dancing than music-making.
Austin City Limits Festival - much like the TV show from which it stems - is as much about the new acts as it is about the well established ones - and so it's only natural that you'll discover a few new favourites in your visit to the festival. Ahead of the event's second weekend, here are five bands I discovered this weekend, and a couple whose brilliance was reinforced...
The line up for the 2013 Outside Lands Festival has been announced, with the San Franciscan audience set to get amongst some awesome sets courtesy of Paul McCartney, a reformed Nine Inch Nails and more. From August 9-11, Golden Gate Park will become a music lover's haven; tickets are on sale now from sfoutsidelands.com/tickets, with a portion of ticket sales going toward San Francisco's Recreation and Park Department.
