The Brisbane based music festival and BIGSOUND has come and gone for another year, but the amazing performances we saw have stuck with us for the days since. We've spend the weekend reflecting on all the incredible showcases we saw, and now we're bringing you our list of the 15 best... in no particular order they are:
Every year as September rolls around, Brisbane opens up it’s arms and takes Australia’s youngest up and coming musical talents into a warm, boozy embrace. An all you can eat musical buffet of 150 bands across 15 stages was presented for punters to feast on as the sun went down over the Fortitude Valley skyline.

And just like that, we're knocking on August's door. While we try to wrap out minds around that fact, some kickass bands are getting ready to tear up venues around the joint this weekend. Get out there and support your locals!
The Sunshine Coast's Horton Park Golf Course will host the Maroochy Music & Visual Arts Festival this year and already, it was looking like a good time to be heading east, with a line up boasting the likes of Hiatus Kaiyote, Gang of Youths, Alpine and more. Not a bad way to spend a day out, right? Well today, the organisers have announced that their as-of-now secret headliner is going to be in the form of Sydney-based duo Flight Facilities! Book yo tickets, book yo flights.
WAAX are Brisbane’s loudest and most energetic band around at the moment, and they’ve just put out a video for their new single "I For an Eye”. The DIY video is visually stunning, capturing a twisted storyline as well as a taste of the bands intense performance style. Check it out here:
The Red Deer Festival is bringing a great camping festival environment once more this year, with the likes of Frenzal Rhomb, Andy Bull (pictured) and Salmonella Dub Soundsystem headlining the artist line up! Transforming the Red Deer ampitheatre into a melting pot of musical sounds from both established and emerging bands, punters will have the opportunity to see their favourites play while also discovering some of the best new artists Queensland currently has to offer.
Rarely does a recording capture the energy of a band like WAAX. The Brisbane 4-piece have just put out their new single “I For An Eye” and it’s an intense, driving fuzz rock piece. This new one comes with the announcement of some shows along the East Coast to launch the single, which you can listen to here:
BIGSOUND has named the first 50 artists for the 2015 live program and for another year, Brisbane looks to become a buzzing hive of excellent live music in September! BIGSOUND Live sees 14 music venues through the Valley taken over by some impressive line ups of bands from around Australia and abroad over two nights for what has become Australia's biggest gathering of industry and music fans. Last year's BIGSOUND program was hectic, showcasing some diverse and brilliant talent - both emerging and established - and this year is going to be no different.
Brisbane's WAAX have really broken out as a band we've been digging through this last half of the year. Highly energetic and dynamic live performers, WAAX were a highlight of BIGSOUND for many and have continued to impress on the live stage since. Their debut single "Wisdom Teeth" now has a great film clip to accompany and it's a perfect example of the fun and ferocity the band brings to their music.
