Festival Review: Byron Bluesfest (Day Four) - Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm (20.04.14)

A slow start for many today, the Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm seemed to be easing in to Sunday at Bluesfest - snoozily/slowly working through hangovers from Saturday night, it was an easy guess that there may not be as many in attendance today as there had been over the past few days. It was of no matter to me however, as I scored myself a spot on the lawn at Crossroads for C.W Stoneking to kick off my music schedule for the day.

Bluesfest’s 25th anniversary was celebrated with a rousing rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ sung to Peter Noble by the public and Playing For Change, who had previously wound up their Mojo Stage set.

The great Booker T. Jones of the MG’s and Green Onions fame headlines the third instalment of Bluesfest Touring’s series of sideshow announcements. It has taken five years to get one of the founding fathers of funk, Booker T. back to tour. The master of the funky Hammond organ has recently returned to Stax Records after 40 years. Booker T. will be joined in Melbourne and Sydney by Tennessee native Valerie June who came to the fore after a mesmerising debut UK TV performance on ‘Later…With Jools Holland’ and she hasn’t turned back since.

Held over the Easter long weekend at the sublime venue that is the Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm in Byron Bay, Bluesfest celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2014 and, by the looks of this line up, we're in for a mighty celebration indeed.
