Vivid Live Review: TV on the Radio + Kirin J Callinan - Sydney Opera House (08.06.15)

As we reported last night, the lights have come down for the 7th year at Vivid Festival Sydney, but not before one last show helped light up the Sydney Opera House - as its sails glowed with animated lights outside. Brooklyn quartet TV on the Radio held the honours, playing as a six piece in the venue - trombone and all - supported by the one and only Kirin J Callinan.

After 18 days of light, music and ideas, the 7th Vivid Sydney has come to a close for yet another year, with Brooklyn's TV on the Radio closing out the festival at the Sydney Opera House, supported by Sydney's own Kirin J Callinan.

Kirin J. Callinan confirmed to support TV on the Radio at the Sydney Opera House!

It's a pretty safe bet that the two shows TV on the Radio have set up for the Sydney Opera House as part of VIVID Sydney are set to be some of the highlights of the festival for live music lovers. Today, the organisers have gone and added another layer of greatness, with the addition of Kirin J. Callinan to the shows. The level creative madness and intrigue Callinan has brought to his live shows over the last few years has made him one of Australia's renowned and sought after performers and recently, he's popped up on tunes with the likes of Mark Ronson all the while dominating on stages as both solo artist and of course, as part of Jack Ladder and The Dreamlanders.

SXSW 2015 Photo Gallery: NPR Music Showcase ft. TV On The Radio + Courtney Barnett - Stubb’s BBQ (18.03.15)

US broadcaster NPR returned to SXSW with their annual NPR Music Showcase at Stubb's BBQ, again highlighting some of the best talent on display in Austin. We saw a diverse variety of artists who performed including Compton bred rapper Boogie, Las Vegas disco and funk (with a hint of androgyny) Shamir, Aussie indie darling Courtney Barnett, Belgian electronic/hip hop artist Stromae and one of the hardest working bands out there, TV On The Radio (pictured above). TV on the Radio, Ludacris and Z-Trip bring SXSW Interactive to an end for 2015 at Stubb's BBQ.

After five days of talks, events and parties (...lots of parties), the Interactive portion of SXSW came to an end tonight with a massive party at Austin's iconic Stubb's BBQ outdoor amphitheater, presented by Media Temple. The drinks and BBQ flowed as Z-Trip, Ludacris and TV on the Radio performed in front of some two thousand lucky attendees. Relatively intimate for all, no doubt.

NPR always has its finger on the pulse when it comes to pulling together some of the best names in music, both established and up and coming, for its SXSW line up. They've just announced the artists confirmed to perform at their opening night event at Stubb's this year and as we'd expect, the menu of music on offer is looking sweet indeed.

Album Review: TV On The Radio - Seeds (2014 LP)

You’ve got to give credit where credit is due: TV On The Radio are one of the most consistent bands in indie rock. From the cold, cutting post-punk aesthetic of Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes to the colourful funk of Dear Science, each of their studio albums has showcased a different side of this Brooklyn act, adding another piece to the increasingly complex puzzle whilst still flaunting their trademark quirks. Their latest album Seeds is an abnormally poppy affair, casting throbbing synths, jaunty guitar licks and lovelorn lyricism into the limelight whilst still making time to show off the crazed vocal antics of Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone.

Laneway Festival line up speculation - Who can we expect on the tour in 2015?

The official artist announcement for the 2015 St Jerome's Laneway Festival will be dropping tomorrow and, like everyone else, we can't wait to see who's going to be spending a bit of the summer with us next year. While some names have been dropped, leaked, unofficially spoiled already, the truth is, the crafty folk behind Laneway could and have pulled artists out of left field in previous years, so we're always going to be surprised in some way or another with elements of the final result. But, we like to play the rumour game, so we've come up with 10 artists and bands who we think may be fitting out the bill for Laneway the very least, we'd love to see them on it.

Album News Weekly: 9 September 2014

In This Issue: Nice list this week, with some great names inside. C.W. Stoneking is back with a new one, as well as Knife Party, Glass Ghost, The Faders, and a heap of others. Take a look inside, there's free food. (There's actually no free food.)

Single Stream: TV On The Radio "Happy Idiot" (2014)

The universally acclaimed TV On The Radio are back with another album, their first since the tragic passing of bassist Gerard Smith in 2011.Seeds, has been set for release on November 14, 2014, giving us more than enough time to play the hell out of it's first single. A bright, up-beat ode to blissful ignorance, "Happy Idiot" has all the makings for a classic, opting out of the darker side of the band's sound and giving us something that is designed to make us dance.
