Festival Review: Young Henry's Small World Festival - Jabez Street, Marrickville (20.09.14)

A conflux of some of the greatest aspects of Sydney's culturally rich inner-west was what Newtown microbrewery Young Henry's delivered in the small, tree-lined Jabez Street in Marickville this past weekend. It was a simple idea really: one of the city's most respected and loved beer breweries deciding to use their massive pull to put on a food, drink, music, and arts street festival to further their consistent involvement in the local community. It's an idea which worked well, with an entire day full of good local food, good local beer, and good local music.

With a harder edge to their sound than ever before, Sydney hip-hop trio True Vibenation delivered their latest LP ON at a special, sold-out album launch that not only reiterated their prowess for performing, but edged them even closer to the top of Australian hip-hop. the AU interview: True Vibenation (Sydney) speak on their new album "ON", a new direction, recording, and more

Sydney hip-hop band True Vibenation set themselves apart from their contemporaries in a number of ways; first you have their love of live instrumentation and the fact that all three members are highly capable when it comes to turning into a full blown horn section; then you have their head-spinning array of styles, with them marrying funk to latino as easily as they pair hip-hop with electro. While they stand as Australia's answer to Ozomatli and The Roots, True Vibenation cruise along in a lane which they have carved out entirely for themselves, using their unique flavour to craft a future classic, new album ON, which is as much as a lesson in diversity as it is a consistent concept album. We recently caught up with all three artists - Native Wit, Verbaleyes, and Klue - to talk about the new album, their range of influences, songwriting, and more.

DZ Deathrays, Ernest Ellis, Awesome Tapes From Africa and more round out the Secret Garden Festival's lineup!

The sold-out Secret Garden Festival has dropped a second artist announcement that is sure to make people either ecstatic that they snagged tickets or devastated they missed out, one of the two. There's just under a fortnight to go until these bands come together for one hell of a party and considering the initial lineup was already ridiculously good, it's no surprise that the event organisers have gone and upped the ante with this second lot as well.
