Festival Review: Big Day Out - Arena Joondalup, Perth (02.02.14)

Big Day Out and Perth have had a pretty strained relationship in recent years, with venue changes, reduced line-ups and poor ticket sales. This year was no different, with Blur dropping out, and continued tensions between organisers and local councils prompting a last minute change in venues and the announcement by AJ Maddah that it would be the last time the event would come to Perth.

They’re currently skyrocketing in popularity, and those who weren’t over at the QANTAS Credit Union Arena (formerly Sydney Entertainment Centre) checking out Arcade Fire were those who snapped up tickets to a sold out show at the Enmore Theatre to see The Lumineers.

Day Four of Bluesfest, on Easter Sunday, kicked off with a bang with an explosive performance by Mason Rock Band as they delivered raucous Aussie blues rock. Featuring an intense mix of percussion, double bass, guitars and boisterous vocals, the band played to a packed out tent filled with enthusiastic listeners. Bringing out a whole lot of cheek, these guys put on a stomping, all Aussie show.
