After gaining notoriety as founding member of Brisbane band The Gin Club, Ben Salter has ventured out on his own, releasing the brilliant solo record The Cat last year. He's now taking his music to the world, venturing out on a tour around the UK and Europe. After heading into the studio with legendary producer, Magoo, Brisbane indie-country duo Texas Tea have emerged with “I Don’t Write No Sad Songs”, the first taste of their upcoming third album – due out September 2012. “I Don’t Write No Sad Songs” is four minutes and 45 seconds of classic Texas Tea indie-country, laced with Benjamin P. Dougherty’s dry wit and propelled by a sexy swamp rock edge. This is Twin Peaks shaking hands with True Blood.

Two of the country’s finest bands are heading out on the road in March. The Gin Club and Texas Tea will be hitting all East coast capitals in a folk/country/rock celebration.

While the valley morphs and shifts around it, The Zoo is an unchanging, perennial venue. On my first day in Brisbane 8 years ago, I went to The Zoo on a sweltering January night and aside from the unseasonably cool weather and blearing Christmas carols, tonight The Zoo is no different.

It’s that time of year again. In what has become a bit of a tradition, musical collective The Gin Club are once again gearing up for a number of special Christmas shows. As well as marking the season in their usual festive way, The Gin Club have two other reasons to celebrate.

Critically acclaimed musical collective The Gin Club will embark on a series of shows throughout June because, well, they're musicians and that's what musicians do. No album to promote, no agenda to push, just a chance to get back in/on the van/plane/booze for a few weeks. The band will however be collecting footage and audio for a live CD/DVD which will be released at the end of the year. So come along, you might end up being mildly famous.
