Live Review: The Ape + Bruce + Greta Mob - Annandale Hotel (09.08.13)

the ape

Whenever Tex Perkins is in town you know you are in for a rock n' roll clinic. Regardless of the band he is fronting, the charismatic performer always draws a healthy crowd and his fan base increases with each passing year. This time round was the debut of his new band The Ape. A primitive group of men from such esteemed Melbourne rock acts like Magic Dirt and Dallas Crane. The talent on stage alone was worth the price of admission. As a band they were faultless to a tee. Classic pub rock n' roll which oozes sex and swagger.

the AU interview: Gus Agars of The Ape (Melbourne)

Just when you thought you were across every Tex Perkins musical project you could be, he comes back with another band for the public to sink their teeth into. The Ape, described as being purveyors of 'primitive, filthy rock and roll', may be fronted by Perkins, but also features some serious talent in Raul Sanchez (Magic Dirt, Midnight Woolf), Gus Agars (The Gin Club, The Dark Horses) and Pat Bourke (Ladyboyz, Mike Noga). Agars answers a few questions I have about the band's debut single "Crawl Back" and what we can expect from The Ape in the future.
