This was Syl Johnson's first time in Sydney. He's previously toured in Australia, but never made it to the capital city. Backed by The Bamboos, described by Johnson as "some bad motherfuckers", a popular Melbourne funk band. They're well known in their own right, but they've also made a name for themselves backing international artists such as Eddie Bo & Joe Bataan. This is their second tour with Johnson.
With Kanye West being no stranger to controversy in the media, he and his partner in crime, Jay-Z, are being accused of illegally sampling Syl Johnson's "The Different Stokes" on their song "Oh Joy", taken from their new album, Watch The Throne.
Mississippi-born, Syl Johnson is bringing the funk to Australia when he hits shores this September. Backed by Australia’s greatest modern funk and soul band The Bamboos, Syl will be showing what R&B really is when he tackles all of his greatest hits on his East Coast tour.
