Album Review: Surfer Blood - 1000 Palms (2015 LP)

There’s a real familiarity to the sound of Surfer Blood. Whether it is the warmth within their tunes, the vocals of front man John Paul Pitts, or the indie-pop sound that is currently swarming the music landscape, I’m not too sure. One thing I’m a little more certain of is that Surfer Blood have gone about and released new album 1000 Palms with the view of taking the best parts of their previous albums, and amalgamating them into this their third album.

Music Video of the Day: Surfer Blood "I Can't Explain" (2015)

Surfer Blood have been favourites of the AU's for some time now and, like many others, our hearts went out to the band when news of Thomas Fekete's cancer treatment broke recently. The support the band has seen from not only their peers, but the fans around the globe has been nothing short of incredible and the band have remained tight throughout. Amid everything happening, Surfer Blood have announced a special benefit show for Fekete, a full US album tour and the release of their latest film clip, this time for "I Can't Explain".

Festival Review: Splendour in the Grass Day Three - North Byron Parklands, Byron Bay (28.07.13)

Winter festivals are far from an easy exercise to put yourself through, especially ones that run multi-days. When you think about it, it's quite remarkable Splendour in the Grass has become the popular event it has, line-ups irrespective. I guess people are just gluttons for punishment. I feel this way after every Splendour.

the AU interview: Kevin Williams of Surfer Blood (Florida)

Florida's Surfer Blood release their sophomore album, Pythons, today and I had the chance to get band's bass player Kevin Williams on the phone prior to the record's official drop in the US and Australia to talk about the difference in recording process, touring the new material and how the band is anticipating coming to Australia next month for Splendour in the Grass.

Album Review: Surfer Blood - Pythons (2013 LP)

Surfer Blood

Let's get this straight from the start: I'm a BIG fan of Surfer Blood. For me, they fill a hole that exists somewhere between when Weezer stopped being the coolest indie band around, The Strokes got lazy with their output, and the Pavement reunion died on its arse with an indifferent shrug of the shoulders. The Florida quartet have only been knocking around since 2009, but in that time they have put out an outstanding debut album in Astro Coast in 2010, and a short but solid EP in 2011's Tarot Classics.
