Splendour in the Grass Festival Review: Saturday - North Byron Parklands (25.07.15)

Day two of Splendour in the Grass was full of big moments spread throughout the entire day, the biggest unsurprisingly being headliner Florence & The Machine. Rain didn't play a factor at all, though the mud situation only slightly improved from piles and piles of wood chips scattered around the grounds to make for helpful paths, particularly in the area in front of the main entrance which was second in thickness only to the entire space between the Mix-Up Stage and Red Bull Music Academy.

the AU interview at Canadian Music Week: Skegss (Byron Bay) on Toronto, New Music and getting booted out by Blur

Byron Bay outfit Skegss sat down with us while at The Aussie BBQ during Canadian Music Week to chat all things college parties, not caring about Blur and finding long lost motivation. With an EP recorded in the wake of an intrusion to their stay at Converse Studios New York, the boys are keen to kick back for a while and start touring again in a few months.

Canadian Music Week Photo Gallery (Day 8): Aussie BBQ Feat. The Lazys + Tora + More (08.05.15)

15 Artists not to miss at Canadian Music Week 2015 from Australia, Canada and all around the world!

In just a few hours, Canadian Music Week will kick off in Toronto, bringing with it an incredible array of artists from all over the globe (hundreds in fact), taking over dozens of venues around the city for nine nights. Australia is the lucky "Spotlight Country" this year, meaning there are more Australian artists on show than ever before, but the musicians worth checking out reach far beyond our own borders. Today on the AU, before we head North to cover the festival's final four nights next week (and throw a party of our own), we're bringing you ten artists who we think are must sees. Some names you may be familiar with, and others you'll likely be meeting for the first time. In no particular order they are:

Aussies Abroad: Skegss, Starlight Theatre, Smith Street, The Red Paintings, Twin Lakes, True Vibenation and Courtney Barnett reveal international tour dates!

As an ongoing commitment to support Australian music, we give you five Australian bands that will soon be doing international tours in the next couple of months. Read on to find the latest dates and location venues...

Photo Gallery: Lunatics On Pogosticks + Skegss - Black Bear Lodge, Brisbane (15.01.15)

Lunatics on Pogosticks were joined by our recent "Artist to Watch" addition Skegss at the Black Bear Lodge last night. Andrew Wade was there and brings us these photos from the night:

the AU review's 15 Australian artists to watch in 2015

It's that time again where we look ahead to the year, rather than backwards, and move through the Australian artists we think will make it big in 2015. Now, our definition of "big" doesn't mean a Gotye size explosion - we just think that by the end of this year, all these artists will be well known around the country... some even internationally. Of course, many are well on their way there already. If you look back at our lists from 2013 and 2012, you'll see that usually we're fairly on the ball here. So pay attention! And now, in no particular order:

Single Stream: Skegss "Rock 'n' Roll Radio" (2014)

Let Byron Bay's Skegss show you how easy it is to make a simple and laid-back rock and roll track. Catch them on their second world tour (no shows outside Australia!) throughout November.

New Music Video: Skegss "L.S.D" (2014)

Cult followings gather for a reason; so the fanbase that boils underneath Byron Bay locals Skegss should be more than enough reason to direct your spotlight onto "L.S.D" (Live. Sleep. Die), the first song released by the fast rising band since they pulled their Bandcamp page from the internet, which clocked over 10,000 views on one month, so that they could re-record. The result is a sound which is deceptively casual; a well-crafted ode to those with a more laid-back approach to life, sounding good enough to expect their upcoming four-show tour (which kicks off tomorrow in Bondi) to be brimming with fans both new and old.
