The Festival Diaries: The Governor's Ball in New York City (Part Three: Day Three, 2014)

Day three dawns and the sun gods have visited us again – time to get alarmed, because now we know New York will be haunted with rain, fog and mugginess for the weeks to come. Only two minutes in, Canadian's Half Moon Run have set the bar for the day, with smooth harmonies and a gracefulness that makes every instrument from drum to kazoo look like an elaborately choreographed move – more dancing than music-making.

10 reasons to get up early and to go Governor's Ball before Noon (this means you, Loren).

Kicking off on Friday, this year’s Governor’s Ball lineup is as stacked as a fluoro-tube-top-wearing rave Jersey girl, and that includes the wee little hot pants, because it’s stacked at the bottom as well. It’s not just about the biggies, though Outkast, Vampire Weekend and Skrillex are certainly the drawcards over here (see my picks in the article five of the acts you can't miss). Here’s the top ten reasons I’ll be getting up early to arrive for the midday sets – and dragging my friends accordingly, to whom I have dedicated this very handy post.

Sideshows announced for Splendour in the Grass

With this year's Splendour in the Grass now sold out, sideshows will be the only chance you have in catching some of the world-class acts which make up the fabulous line-up. While many of the big-names are exclusive to the festival, there are quite a few exciting sideshows for concertgoers to sink their teeth into. All tickets on sale 9am AEST, Friday 9th May. Sideshows announced so far are as follows:

the AU interview: Michael Ian Cummings of SKATERS (New York) talks Splendour in the Grass.

New York City quartet Skaters capture their hometown with charm as they maintain their electric, punk roots. Headed our way later in the year to play Splendour in the Grass, vocalist Michael Ian Cummings takes some time out for a casual chat with Larry about the band's relentless touring schedule, Carson Dailey, and the art of balancing rehearsed sets with improvised ones.
