SAFIA

Tour Diary: Safia (Canberra) take on SXSW, LA Rooftop Bars, Pedi Cabs and more in March 2015

Canberra three-piece Safia continue to make waves and move to the forefront of Australia's next biggest musical exports with their blend of indie rock, delicate soul, and various styles of electronica. Having just finished up their trip to the USA, including shows at SXSW and in LA, the trio kept the AU review in the loop via tour diary. Click through to check out their snaps and insights from their time in the US... Photos by Damien Weatherley.

Alison Wonderland and SAFIA top the first announcement for Australia's electronic cruise ship festival: Seas and Beats

Australia is getting its first ever "electronic music festival at sea" next year, with Alison Wonderland, Hot Dub Time Machine, SAFIA, The Kite String Tangle, Touch Sensitive and more ready to play the massive event that will see 2000 revellers transported from Brisbane to a mystery island for what is destined to be a four day, three night party from the 5th to the 8th of March 2016.

the AU interview at SXSW: SAFIA (Canberra) talk new experiences, US reaction to their music and future plans

Aussie electronic/dance trio SAFIA chat to the AU review about their SXSW experience, the reactions to their music and their plans for after Austin. Doing a total of 6 shows at SXSW, the group said that so far, there'd been "a lot of sweating..." with the amount of running around they'd been doing.

Sosefina Fuamoli's Picks: The Five Best Artists of SXSW 2015!

And just like that, as quickly as it began, we reached the end of yet another chaotic SXSW. With so many performances to filter and pick from over the past week, it's been hard to determine what has been classified a 'stand out' moment from the epic music festival. Between the four of us who scattered throughout Austin each day and night in an attempt to cover as much ground as possible, there were many memorable moments we all took away from the showcases we were able to attend (not marred by healthy amounts of tequila, of course) and below are just some of my choice artists who ranked highly this year.

SXSW Live Music Review: The Aussie BBQ ft. The Delta Riggs, REMI, Steve Smyth & more - Brush Square Park (21.03.15)

The Aussie BBQ returned to Brush Square Park this year, the 2015 edition of the SXSW event bringing the likes of The Delta Riggs, Tigertown, Hiatus Kaiyote to two tents set up on the east and west sides of the park. While last year's Aussie BBQ battled the fire marshal, the main element set against us was the first big day of consistent rain in Austin this SXSW - the weather didn't hamper the mood much however, with the beers and BBQ food continuing to prove popular with those in attendance.

Single Stream: SAFIA "Counting Sheep" (2015)

Ooh, SAFIA. This one's a little bit juicy, a little edgy, isn't it? The Canberra trio have dropped their latest single in "Counting Sheep" and I like where they've gone with it. A cool fusion of synths and and pop sensibilities, SAFIA have continued to produce music which sets them that little bit aside from other 'indietronica' acts currently doing the rounds.

SAFIA, George Maple and more added to the SXSW Music programme!

In case you missed the news over the weekend, SXSW just keeps on getting bigger, with more names being added to the 2015 Music line up! While the likes of LOLAWOLF, Hudson Mohawke, Buck 65 and more are set to join in on the Austin party in March, we're excited to see some more of our fave Australian talent in SAFIA, George Maple, Steve Smyth and others also US-bound!

the AU interview at the Falls Festival 2014: Safia (Canberra) talk Lorde, Bluejuice, triple j Hottest 100 & plans for 2015

Photo: John Goodridge

the AU review recently sat down at the Falls Festival to interview indie electronic band, SAFIA. New to the Falls Festival line up, we asked them which bands they were most excited to see and they revealed an 'emotional' and 'crazy' festival showmance with Sydney’s Bluejuice. We talked about their recent Australian tour, their live show, and the 'prospering' music scene in their hometown, Canberra. We reflected on their 2014 tour with Lorde and talked about why the young singer is more mature than all of SAFIA. The band also revealed their favourite artists of 2014.

the AU review's 15 most anticipated Australian records of 2015

After an incredible year of new Australian music in 2014, we have an incredible array of records in the pipeline for the new year. Some are from bands who we've been waiting to hear from again for years... some for the first time... others are continuously pumping out incredible music and we have no desire for them to stop! In no particular order, here are the fifteen Australian albums (some confirmed, some still to be...) that we can't wait for (or at the very least are hoping for...) in 2015:

As the sun rose on a perfect final day of the Falls Festival, weary punters headed to the valley in anticipation of another great day of music. Alt-J, The Presets and Safia were just a few of the standouts on the day. Our photographer John Goodridge brings you these photos from the final day.

the AU interview: Ben from SAFIA (Canberra) on playing in Fiji, singles, and music apps.

SAFIA love playing in unconventional places. Whether it be in seaside venues in the Fijian islands or the views of the Harbour Bridge, to performing with the folks from Peking Duk on the current Stereosonic tour, the outfit have always branch out into doing very different things all them time. Being Unearthed by triple j seems a while ago now. Ben from the outfit sat down to explain all that's happened since that great opportunity last year.
