Festival Review: Listen Out - RNA Showgrounds, Brisbane (04.10.15)

Listen Out has come back doing the rounds, the lineup having some fan favourites as well as the Red Bull Music Academy stage coming back to bring young talent. This year the festival was simplified to two stages; this idea of festivals becoming smaller and more manageable continues to prove popular amongst music fans. It seems making it easier and thus cheaper encourages fans to come along. Gone are the days of big extravagant festivals with five or six different stages. In this case, Listen Out offered two stages, Atari and the 909 stage; Atari was outdoors under the huge big top tent while 909 remained indoors providing some awesome pyrotechnics.

Childish Gambino, SBTRKT, Joey Bada$$ lead 2015 Listen Out line up!

The 2015 Listen Out festival line up has dropped today and it's looking to be a sweet fusion of hip-hop, dance and electronic music at the events scheduled for Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth this September and October. Leading the charge this year is Childish Gambino, who'll be making his Australian return off the back of a popularly received Splendour in the Grass appearance last year. Most recently, Gambino's debuted a new track at Bonnaroo in the States, so we're keen to see what new music stands to come out between now and his next lot of Aussie dates. Falls Festival alumni SBTRKT, Joey Bada$$, Alison Wonderland and Client Liaison also feature on the 2015 bill, with more announcements still to drop!

Chet Faker included on the lineup for San Francisco's Treasure Island Festival!

The full line-up for San Francisco's Treasure Island Festival has been announced! The two day festival is held at an island that is (seriously) called Treasure Island, with headliners OutKast and Massive Attack taking the helm for both nights. Melbourne's own Chet Faker has been announced on the line-up, which also includes TV on the Radio, The New Pornographers, Alt-J and Janelle Monáe. Treasure Island takes place from 18-19 October, and the rest of the gem-studded line-up is below.

WA festival CIRCO announces epic fourth stage a month out from the event!

A month out from the awesome boutique music festival that is CIRCO, the organisers of the WA event have announced some updates. A fourth stage, the 'Red Bull 'Perf' Stage', has been announced and will be showcasing talents from the WA electronic music scene.

DZ Deathrays, Ernest Ellis, Awesome Tapes From Africa and more round out the Secret Garden Festival's lineup!

The sold-out Secret Garden Festival has dropped a second artist announcement that is sure to make people either ecstatic that they snagged tickets or devastated they missed out, one of the two. There's just under a fortnight to go until these bands come together for one hell of a party and considering the initial lineup was already ridiculously good, it's no surprise that the event organisers have gone and upped the ante with this second lot as well.

Adelaide collective FOURWORDS present 'Knots' festival for August 25.

If you've enjoyed a night out in Adelaide over the past 12 months, there's a decent shot it's been at a fourwords event, or an event that they've had something to do with. The local collective of party-starters, local artist champions and general rad dudes have been hosting their parties at the Rhino Room for longer than I can remember, but it was only going to be so long before they branched out and hosted their own goddamned festival.

Live Review: Astral People's 1st Birthday Party - GoodGod Small Club (15.09.12)

To celebrate the big ONE, Astral People assembled a bunch of masterly artists and DJs at GoodGod Small Club on Saturday night. The space was decked out as I imagine a prom in Chicago to have looked like in 1985; dozens of balloons and thick smoke in darkness interrupted by whirling pinkypurpley lighting.
