Remi and Sensible J celebrate family and community with new single “My People”

Ahead of Record Store Day, where they’ll be popping up alongside some of Melbourne’s best at Northside RecordsRemi and Sensible J have slid on through onto radars with a brand new single in “My People”. Featuring Thando on guest vocals, the single is a markedly new sound from Remi and J, who have been consistently positioning themselves within the Australian hip hop game as players keen to switch things up.

Not resting on laurels between the release of 2016’s Divas and Demons and the amount of touring that has taken them around the country since, the duo have been sinking into deep musical research, as well as working with talented artists in Melbourne and beyond.

Now, with “My People” being the first cut from what is a growing new album of material, Remi and J demonstrate the type of sounds they’re dabbling with – more soul, more lyrical introspection and more beats that are at the fore of the freshest around.

The music video for “My People” brings Baro into the fold, with the rapper taking the reins behind the camera directing family and friends in this colourful clip.

“The most beautiful thing about this song, is that it was about family and I got to create it with family. Sensible J, as always, blessed the production. Its forever inspiring when those closest to you just get better and better. Then J and I got to link with Thando on the vocals. She is so dope, her skill, energy and mind are on another level. So lucky to have worked together. And finally my brothers Yusuf Harare and Hussein did some sneaky harmonies, adlibs and the intro for the joint. So now when I hear the track all I can hear is fam”.

“I just wanted to showcase my beautiful family whilst centring diversity and blackness in this film clip, which is rarely done in this country. Make it just a wholesome celebration of the song the guys made which was a sonic celebration in itself”.
