PENNYWISE

the AU Weekend Gig Guide: September 25th - September 27th.

With festival season right around the corner, there are plenty of shows to get yourself to this weekend. From underground rock 'n' roll in Adelaide to rap in Sydney and Sound of the Suburbs festival in Cronulla here is our eclectic mix of shows you can get to this weekend.

Album Review: Pennywise - Yesterdays (2014 LP)

Pennywise have been around for ages and it’s amazing to think that they have been one of the influential bands that have shaped the punk rock scene of today. For their music to still mean something, says a lot about their reputation. Being a band for over twenty years and having eleven studio albums, this is not only a reflection of their career longevity but it also shows their genuine commitment as musicians. Last year, they released their album Yesterdays with former and original vocalist Jim Lindberg after Zoli Téglás departure as lead singer of two years due to back injury. With punk bands like Green Day and The Offspring hitting the mainstream attention and signing with major labels, Pennywise chose to stay with Epitaph Records. Truth be told, you don’t need a major record deal to speak your mind through your music.

Photo Gallery: Soundwave Festival - Bonython Park, Adelaide (01.03.14)

The Soundwave juggernaut descended upon Adelaide over the weekend. With seven stages and over eighty acts, there was so much music to take in. Our photographer John Goodridge was there and delivers this taste of what what was on offer.

Festival Review: Soundwave - Bonython Park, Adelaide (01.03.14)

By the time Soundwave put up stops in Adelaide for another year, I'll admit that I was struggling. Falling on the 1st of March, the largest touring festival in the country aptly kicks off 'March Madness' for the Festival State and by this stage, myself and a lot of other Adelaideans have had shows thrown at us from every which way possible through the first two months of the year. It's sunny, there's a cool breeze and god damn it, I wanted some good live tunes because fuck it, I'm a sucker for it, so off I went down to Bonython Park for the second time in just over a month.

the AU interview: Fletcher Dragge of Pennywise (California)

When singer Jim Lindberg split from Pennywise in August 2009, the band’s guitarist Fletcher Dragge didn’t hold back any criticism of his long-time friend. In fact, Dragge refused to speak with his former band mate for three years and Pennywise drummer Byron McMackin and bassist Randy Bradbury were equally as condemning of the singer’s move.
