MICACHU AND THE SHAPES

Album News Weekly: 2nd September 2015

In This Issue: Spring has begun and the pop records are rolling in! This week is indescribable with everything from Duran Duran's new album to something a little heavier out of Finland, a taste of hip hop and some straight up guitar driven grooves.

Single of the Day: Micachu & The Shapes "Sad" (2015)

It's been three years since we've heard from Micachu & The Shapes (their 2012 record Never had some of my favourite tracks of the year on it), but today the first cut from their forthcoming album Good Sad Happy Bad has been dropped and I for one, am stoked. Entitled "Sad", the jam still retains the experiment-pop elements that brought the trio to the attention of many in the first place, is straight up in its arrangement and is weirdly hypnotic.

Album Review: Micachu and the Shapes - Never (2012 LP)

I read a review somewhere before listening to this record, that said UK three-piece Micachu and the Shapes’ new album Never was ‘pop music for the 2010s.’ I hope not. I’m still trying to work out whether I’m severely lacking in indie street cred – behind the curve on what’s cool, with an archaic ear – or whether the album was plain bad. What’s clear is I didn’t get it.
