Magic Dirt to be inducted as Live Legends at the 2018 National Live Music Awards

An influential element to the roaring Australian music scene, acclaimed Geelong rock band Magic Dirt are to be inducted as Live Legends at the 2018 National Live Music Awards on the 6th of December.

Known for their ground breaking, ARIA award nominated album Life Was Better (1994) with stand out tracks such as “Ice” and “Amoxycillin”, the famed group have been tearing through Australian scene, touring relentlessly for some 18 years and forging the path for generations of rock bands behind them.

Becoming fixtures on radio, record collections and the bands set lists with tracks such as “Dirty Jeans”, “Plastic Loveless Letter”, “She-Riff” and “White-Boy” and releasing no less than 8 studio albums and 5 EPs, it is no surprise that Magic Dirt are receiving recognition for their part in Australian rock history.

Raul Sanchez of Magic Dirt says of the award, “We were and are primarily a live band, and as much as we love our recordings, we lived to hit the road and play live to a sweaty audience, that came to see some chaos, noise and the beautiful spontaneous magic that occurs when musicians put their souls on the line. It doesn’t get much better than that. It is a great honour for us to receive recognition for that, a recognition that we want to share as a tribute to our wonderful friend and bandmate Dean Turner and our awesome fans. Thank you.”

The NLMAs is a celebration of the incredible and diverse live music scene and it’s no surprise that the 90s staple is scoring themselves a spot. The award will coincide with the bands first major tour in 8 years, playing shows as part of the Hotter Than Hell series alongside Jebediah, 28 Days, Bodyjar, Spiderbait and Shihad as well as an appearance at the 2019 Twilight at Taronga concert series with You Am I and the Golden Plains Festival. As part of the NLMAs Brisbane Gala, the band will play alongside 2018 nominees BUGS, Timothy James Bowen and Alice Ivy, rising stars Pink Matter and more, with further performers, special guests and presenters to be announced in the coming weeks.
