Festival Review: Lollapalooza Berlin - Tempelhof Airport, Germany (12.09.15 & 13.09.15)

Photo: Stephan Flad.

Lollapalooza branched out into Europe for the first time over the weekend, taking Berlin's Tempelhof Airport by storm. The sold out event drew huge numbers of music fans down to the defunct airport (one of the coolest festival venues I've been too, I'll add) for some brilliant sets by artists who've been away for a little while, some of the biggest names touring at the moment and some recent festival favourites. Having attended Lollapalooza in Chicago last year, I felt like I was going into this one at least a little prepared, but Berlin's festival game was another beast in itself.

FFS & Deichkind impress, while Macklemore & Ryan Lewis draw 50,000+ to close out Night One of Lolla Berlin!

The first day and night of the inaugural European extension of Lollapalooza came to a close at the Tempelhof Airport on Saturday, with hip-hop, rock and roll and dance music setting up a killer final few hours for punters to power on through to. With perfect weather conditions, an excellent venue and a solid line up of internationally renowned acts performing promptly throughout the Lollapalooza Berlin's first day, festival goers were spoiled for choice when it came not only to the variety of food options on offer, but musical fare too.

Muse announced to headline second night of Lollapalooza Berlin this September.

British festival favourites Muse have been announced as headliners for Lollapalooza Berlin, it's been revealed overnight. The two day festival happening in September is the latest event to be added to the Lolla franchise, taking place at Tempelhof Airport and already features the likes of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Franz Ferdinand, Run the Jewels and Crystal Fighters on its inaugural festival bill.

Lollapalooza Berlin debuting in September, featuring Tame Impala, The Libertines & more!

Lollapalooza continues its world domination, heading to Europe for the first time this year! September sees the festival set its eyes on Berlin, with the likes of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis and The Libertines set to to headline the inaugural festival at Tempelhof. Tame Impala, Little Dragon, Hot Chip and Run The Jewels have also been confirmed to appear at Lolla Berlin over the two day event, with many, many more artists still to be announced!

the AU interview: Zoe Rain talks making a career in photography in the US, touring with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and more.

Photo: Jonathan Gipaya Photography

I first met Zoe Rain at a pre-Lollapalooza rooftop party last year. In Chicago for the weekend from Seattle, the talented photographer became someone whose career I've followed since. Involving herself in a wide variety of photography, Rain's impressive development as a photographer in the last few years has seen her travel the globe and become a well-known name for various brands, artists and musicians. To get an idea of what it's like to try and establish a career in a market such as the one in the US, Zoe tells me some of her story.

Album Review: Fences - Lesser Oceans (2015 LP)

Lesser Oceans, the second album by Seattle indie band (and oh boy do I mean indie) Fences sounds like what you listen to when you've exhausted Ben Gibbard's back catalogue and you need something a little bit more Postal Service than Death Cab.

Festival Review: Future Music Festival - Royal Adelaide Showgrounds (10.03.14)

Donning my shortest shorts this past Monday for the notoriously trashy Future Music Festival, I approached the gates of The Royal Adelaide Showgrounds with scepticism, not sure what to expect as a complete “Futurez” rookie.

Behemoth dance festival Future Music Festival stopped by Melbourne's Flemington Racecourse for a massive day of big beats and impressive visuals. Serena Ho was on site to capture all the action; and what action it was!

Festival Review: Future Music Festival - RNA Showgrounds, Brisbane (01.03.14)

Future Music Festival - one of Australia’s premier electronic music festivals - was a writhing pit of visceral pandemonium that began with tens of thousands of dance and electronic music fans thankful to the elemental gods for a day of blue skies. I knew, even before I entered, I was on a safari into the belly of a metaphorical shirtless, musical, beast on pills. Hashtag 'bulkin’ for Future.'
