Music Video of the Day: Hopium "Right Now" (2015)

Hopium have to be one of the most exciting and intriguing acts coming up and out of Australia at the minute. Sure, they may have only made their splash in 2014 with the Triple J Hottest 100 charter "Dreamers" and also the excellent "Cut", but the well-crafted pieces of music haven't stopped being turned out by Hopium and we're once again left listening thinking, 'Wow - this is something special'. The latest Hopium track, "Right Now", saw a stunning music video released and it's just great to watch as this polished production of the song itself soars. "Right Now" sees Hopium link up with the maestro that is M-Phazes, so you may not be totally surprised when you take this one for a spin and pick up on his undeniable flair that has been applied to this piece of music.

APRA|AMCOS initiative SongHubs, the program which partners Australian songwriters with international music creatives, is set to head Stateside this year! We went behind the scenes with SongHubs when the sessions took place in Mumbai back in 2014, where the likes of Cloud Control, Peking Duk and more worked with musicians in India, resulting in invaluable new relationships and some great music being made. Now, to coincide with Grammy Week, SongHubs is heading to LA to link up some Aussie songwriters with some US producers and songwriters.

Festival Review: Rapture Festival ft. Eminem - ANZ Stadium (22.02.14)

The inaugural Rapture festival marks an important turn for live hip hop in Australia; it proves that this country can – and will hopefully continue to - host a professional and coherent rap festival with both massive international and local hip hop artists. While a ridiculous amount of past hiccups has marred the reputation of live hip hop in Australia – particularly from U.S acts – the successful run of Rapture stood in contradiction to the stigma, pushing through any doubters by actually delivering what it promised to.

Illy + M-Phazes + Johnny Utah + Plasticmoney - Sussex Tavern, NSW (10.06.11)

After some hassles of getting in, (always the way in small town venues), which resulted in possibly a few too many rounds of beer, I was finally able to enjoy some fine aussie hip-hop. Not usually the type of music I choose to listen to, nor attend live, but this was a special occasion and to kick off the night I was treated to plasticmoney, a hip hop artist who originated on the NSW south coast and was back tonight to stamp his signature tunes on the town.
