Music Video of the Day: Fascinator "Dead of the Night" (2015)

What ever happened to Children Collide? Their fade away from making music is a lot easier to deal with due to Fascinator, the project from frontman Johnny Mackay. Know for taking psych and synth pop influences and putting them to some of the strangest visuals you’ll ever see, the new track from Fascinator is on form with his previous work, but with a slightly more pop-oriented production and arrangement. Check out the video for "Dead of the Night" here:

Vivid Live Review: TV on the Radio + Kirin J Callinan - Sydney Opera House (08.06.15)

As we reported last night, the lights have come down for the 7th year at Vivid Festival Sydney, but not before one last show helped light up the Sydney Opera House - as its sails glowed with animated lights outside. Brooklyn quartet TV on the Radio held the honours, playing as a six piece in the venue - trombone and all - supported by the one and only Kirin J Callinan.

SXSW Live Music Review: The Aussie BBQ ft. The Delta Riggs, REMI, Steve Smyth & more - Brush Square Park (21.03.15)

The Aussie BBQ returned to Brush Square Park this year, the 2015 edition of the SXSW event bringing the likes of The Delta Riggs, Tigertown, Hiatus Kaiyote to two tents set up on the east and west sides of the park. While last year's Aussie BBQ battled the fire marshal, the main element set against us was the first big day of consistent rain in Austin this SXSW - the weather didn't hamper the mood much however, with the beers and BBQ food continuing to prove popular with those in attendance.

New Music Video: Donny Benet & Kirin J Callinan "The Edge" (2015)

We'd like to give five stars to director Alex Smith for this truly amazing video for "The Edge". For anyone who grew up watching Rage, this will warm your heart and soul. And thanks to the collaboration of Donny Benet and Kirin J Callinan, the music ain't bad either. I'd like to go as far to say as it's pretty sexy - but that may just be Kirin's moves while Donny looks like a boss in the background. Or it may be the last 60 seconds or so which is something of an aural orgasm. Watch the clip here:

Sydney Festival Live Review: Kirin J Callinan - The Aurora (15.01.15)

Sydney artist Kirin J Callinan was at his idiosyncratic best as his transformed The Aurora, a pop up spiegeltent as part of Sydney Festival, into a late-night rock-rave of throbbing 80s electronica and clangy industrial rock. The very slick, very confident performer speaks in a low growl-slash-whisper when he addresses the crowd, almost as if he's trying to impersonate Christian Bale in The Dark Knight, flirting with his fans in a wholly entertaining, often uncomfortable and always hilarious way.

Australia's festival scene is set to be well-represented at SXSW this year, now with the St Jerome's Laneway Festival being the third Aussie festival to announce a showcase in Austin this month. Laneway, who have had arguably one of the most successful festival tours of 2014 thus far, will be holding their shindig at Holy Mountain on March 15th, showing off the talents of not only some of our best, but some great international bands as well.

Festival Review: St Jerome's Laneway Festival - Harts Mill, Port Adelaide (07.02.14)

It's another blistering hot day in Adelaide and again, the festival lovers were out in force despite the sun beating down on us all. This time, the St Jerome's Laneway Festival was held down in Port Adelaide for the first time, a result of a much needed venue change from the UniSA campus site in previous years. Many were apprehensive, given the distance from the city, but I think the Harts Mill site is going to be a great venue to host the festival, with some small changes.
